Managing Serviceguard Extension for SAP on Linux (IA64 Integrity and x86_64), April 2009

DescriptionComponent
liveCache instance (lc)liveCache
NFS package (sapnfs) that provides NFS file systems to any of the above SAP instances. As
described earlier this Serviceguard package provides the cluster wide SHARED NFS mount points
required by any of the above SAP instance types.
SAPNFS
Some of the above listed Serviceguard packages can also be configured as a combination: (dbci, dbjci
dbcijci...). For example a dbci package is a combination of the db instance and the ci instance and
would be considered one entity.
The advantage of such a combination is that the db instance and the ci instance always start, stops and
relocate together as one single package instead of two. The other advantage is such a Serviceguard package
only requires one virtual IP address instead of two.
The disadvantage is that any time one of the package components (db or ci) has to be stopped, the other
package component also has to be stopped.
SGeSAP/LX Implementations
The following diagram gives an overview of a Serviceguard cluster and its packages.
Figure 2-4 Necessary components for configuring and running a Serviceguard packages in and SAP
environment
The diagram demonstrates what components are necessary for configuring and running a Serviceguard
packages in an SAP environment. The components for this SAP instance with SID = "RIS" are:
Four Serviceguard packages with the names dbRIS, ciRIS, d01RIS and sapNFS
The package dbRIS is responsible for starting and stopping the database application for SAP instance
RIS.
The package ciRIS is responsible for starting and stopping the SAP central instance for id RIS.
The package d01RIS is responsible for starting and stopping the SAP dialog instance D01 for id RIS.
The package sapNFS mount all NFS related storage volumes and exports them to all cluster nodes
The naming convention is the following:
Lowercase instance type (ci, db, sap...)
