6 Sendmail Toolkit
Overview
HP Serviceguard toolkit for Sendmail on Linux (Sendmail toolkit) enables you to configure Sendmail
in an SG/LX cluster environment. The Sendmail toolkit consists of a set of shell scripts that are used
by the package control script to start, stop, and monitor the Sendmail server. The toolkit simplifies
the task of integrating Sendmail with SG/LX.
Sendmail application must be installed on all nodes that runs the Sendmail application in the SG/LX
cluster. A typical configuration that supports the Sendmail application is with one node as a primary
mail node and the other node as standby. The Sendmail application runs on the primary node,
and accepts and transports mails over the network or locally, while the standby node does not run
the Sendmail application.
NOTE: Only one Sendmail application instance runs on one node at any given time.
When the primary node fails, the standby node takes over all Sendmail control of receiving and
transporting mail functions. All the necessary configuration information on each node must be
identical and the resources must be available to all the supporting nodes. The mailbox and the
mail queue information must also be shared on disks and these disks must be accessible by the
same path names on each node.
Advantages
When Sendmail toolkit is deployed in an SG/LX environment, following are the advantages:
Provides monitoring for Sendmail daemons.
Enables easy integration of Sendmail server in an SG/LX environment.
Provides high availability for the Sendmail server.
Prerequisites
Sendmail toolkit package requires the following to function:
HP Serviceguard on Linux must be installed on all the nodes that must be configured in the
cluster.
The toolkit must be installed on all the target nodes, where the package is configured to run.
Sendmail server must be installed and configured in all the target node.
Installing and uninstalling Sendmail toolkit
The Sendmail toolkit is bundled within the Serviceguard on Linux Contributed toolkit suite. The
Sendmail toolkit must be installed on all the nodes of the cluster that are configured to run the
Sendmail web server package.
