Building Disaster Recovery Serviceguard Solutions Using Metrocluster with EMC SRDF

6 Administering Metrocluster
Adding a node to a Metrocluster
To add a node to Metrocluster with EMC SRDF:
1. Add the node in a cluster by editing the Serviceguard cluster configuration file and applying
the configuration:
# cmapplyconf -C cluster.config
2. Configure the device groups or consistency groups used by the Metrocluster packages on the
newly added node. For more information, see “Creating Symmetrix device groups” (page 16)
or “Creating the consistency groups” (page 23).
3. If you are using Metrocluster legacy packages, perform the following steps:
a. Create the Metrocluster package directory on the newly added node.
b. Copy the package control script and Metrocluster environment file from one of the existing
nodes to the same pathname on the newly added node:
# rcp <package_directory>/<package_control_script>
<new_node_name>:<package_directory>
# rcp <package_directory>/<Metrocluster_environment_file>
<new_node_name>:<package_directory>
4. If you are using Metrocluster modular package and if the node_name is set to “*” in
Metrocluster package configuration, perform the following steps:
a. Create the Metrocluster package directory on the newly added node.
b. Copy Metrocluster environment file from one of the existing nodes to the same pathname
on the newly added node:
# rcp <package_directory>/<Metrocluster_environment_file>
<new_node_name>:<package_directory>
5. If you are using Metrocluster modular package and if the node names are explicitly specified
for node_name parameter in Metrocluster package configuration, then add the newly added
node in a Metrocluster package by editing the Metrocluster package configuration and
applying the configuration:
# cmapplyconf P <package_config_file>
Maintaining a cluster
While the cluster is running, all EMC Symmetrix disk arrays that belong to the same Serviceguard
package, and are defined in a single SRDF group must be in the same state at the same time.
Manual changes of these states can cause the package to halt due to unexpected conditions. HP
recommends that you do not manually change the states while the package and the cluster are
running.
There might be situations when the package has to be brought down for maintenance purposes
without having the package move to another node.
The following procedure is for normal maintenance of Metrocluster EMC SRDF:
1. Stop the package with the appropriate Serviceguard command.
# cmhaltpkg pkgname
2. Split the logical SRDF links for the package. In the pre.cmquery script, replace the device
group name with the device group in your environment.
# /opt/cmcluster/toolkit/SGSRDF/Samples/pre.cmquery
