Metrocluster with EMC SRDF Version A.05.01 Release Notes (5900-1102), August 2010

New features in the patch PHSS_41308 on HP-UX 11i v1
Metrocluster/SRDF A.05.01 along with the patch PHSS_41308 provides support for
the following new functionalities:
Support for Asynchronous Data Replication with SRDF Multi Session
Consistency Feature
Starting with this release, you can build a composite group for SRDF/Asynchronous
Multi Session Consistency (MSC) data replication. However, you must configure
these composite groups with devices that are SRDF/Asynchronous capable within
the RDF groups. You can configure a package using the SRDF/Asynchronous MSC
when you install Metrocluster SRDF for the first time or later. Change the value
of the RDF_MODE to async and the value of the CONSISTENCYGROUP variable
to 1. For more information about Asynchronous Consistency Groups, see Designing
Disaster Tolerant HA Clusters using Metrocluster and Continentalclusters, December
2007 edition at http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs.
Support for Controlled Failback
This feature controls package startup at the R1 site during a failback. The package
startup is delayed for resynchronization to complete during a failback. A new
parameter SYNCTIMEOUT is introduced that accepts a numeric value. The value
that you specify for this parameter determines the time that the package waits for
the resynchronization to complete before starting up. The package starts only if
the resynchronization process is complete within the specified time.
Support for Package Startup in Split State
A new parameter AUTOSPLITR1 is introduced to enable automatic package startup
on the R1 site when the links are split. To enable this feature, set the value of this
parameter to 1 in the environment file in the R1 site.
Support for Consistency Groups using RDF Enginuity Consistency Assist
Metrocluster/SRDF supports Consistency Groups (M by N configuration)
configured using RDF-ECA feature of Solutions Enabler. Metrocluster/SRDF now
can manage Consistency Groups with either EMC PowerPath software or RDF-ECA
feature. To use RDF-ECA, ensure that the RDF process daemon is running on any
of the locally-attached hosts. For redundancy, it is recommended that you run
multiple instances of the RDF daemon on different hosts. For more information
on configuring and using RDF-ECA, refer to the EMC documentation website.
Support for Virtual Provisioning
This patch supports configuring Virtual Provisioning volumes. However, there
are a few restrictions and guidelines that must be followed while configuring
Virtual Provisioning volumes in a Metrocluster. For more information on Virtual
Provisioning, see the EMC Symmetrix® Remote Data Facility (SRDF) ® Product
Guide available at the EMC documentation site.
