Types of Configuration
Virtual Partitions or Integrity VM can be integrated with DR solutions in the following ways:
1. Monitoring and Recovering Virtualized Environments
a. Virtual Partitions or Integrity VM as a Serviceguard Package in a Metrocluster.
b. Virtual Partitions or Integrity VM as a Serviceguard Package in Continentalclusters.
2. Monitoring and Recovering the Application running in a Virtualized Environment.
a. Virtual Partitions or Integrity VM as a Serviceguard Node in a Metrocluster.
b. Virtual Partitions or Integrity VM as a Serviceguard Node in Continentalclusters.
Virtualized Environments as a Serviceguard Package in a Metrocluster or
Continentalclusters
In this type of configurations, the virtual machine or the virtual partition is configured as a
Serviceguard package. The VM hosts or the physical hosts act as the Serviceguard nodes monitoring
and failing over the VM guests that are used to run the applications. The detection of the failures
and the process of failing over of the VM guests can be accomplished by integrating Metrocluster
or Continentalclusters with either Integrity VM Serviceguard Toolkit or Serviceguard Integrity Virtual
Servers toolkit.
Configuring Virtualized Environments as a Serviceguard Package has the following advantages:
The applications that must be integrated need not necessarily be running on HP-UX. The virtual
partitions or the Integrity VMs can be installed with other supported operating systems like
Linux or Windows.
The virtualized environments can be used as inexpensive test beds to evaluate high availability
solutions before deploying them on production site.
The failover time for the Serviceguard packages in such environments is higher as it involves a
boot-up of the virtual machine before the application can be started.
Figure 19 illustrates an example of a Serviceguard Package in a Metrocluster while Figure 20
illustrates an example of a Serviceguard Package in Continentalclusters.
