Designing Disaster Recovery Clusters using Metroclusters and Continentalclusters, Reprinted October 2011 (5900-1881)

Overview of SADTA Configuration
A complex workload is configured redundantly by configuring it at each site sub-cluster. A Site
Controller Package is created to manage the workload. The Site Safety Latch is created automatically
on all nodes when the Site Controller Package configuration is applied in the cluster. The workload
packages at each site are configured with the Site Controller Package and the Site Safety Latch is
configured with the appropriate package in the workload. Starting the Site Controller Package
starts the workload packages on the site. The workload packages can be shut down by halting
the corresponding Site Controller Package.
Figure 59 describes two Oracle Database 10gR2 RAC configured in a SADTA Metrocluster. Each
database workload (active and passive) has its own Site Controller Package and Site Safety Latch.

Configuring a Complex Workload in SADTA
This section describes the procedures that need to be followed to configure SADTA with a complex
workload.
This section addresses the following topics:
“Setting up Replication” (page 345)
“Configuring Metrocluster with Sites” (page 346)
“Setting up the Complex Workload Redundantly in the Metrocluster” (page 347)
“Configuring the Site Controller Package for the Complex Workload” (page 355)
“Configuring the Site Safety Latch Dependencies for a Complex Workload” (page 357)
“Starting the Disaster Tolerant Complex Workload in the Metrocluster” (page 359)
“Verifying the Disaster Tolerant Complex Workload in the Metrocluster” (page 359)
Setting up Replication
In SADTA, the data of the complex workload must be replicated between the disk arrays at each
site. The Site Controller Package prepares the storage during its startup by using the Metrocluster
environment file that is specified with it. The replication mechanism differs depending on the type
of array in your environment. For more information on configuring replication for the arrays in
your environment, see the respective chapters of this manual.
