1 HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite Version A.04.00 for HP-UX 11i v3 Release Notes Announcements The HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite (SG SMS) bundles integrate HP Serviceguard (SG) with the Veritas Storage Foundation™ by Symantec (SF). This combination provides powerful database and storage management capabilities while maintaining the mission-critical reliability HP Serviceguard customers have come to expect.
changes, the “yy” increments with HP Serviceguard version changes, and the “zz” is reserved for incremental updates to previously released SG SMS versions. For example, with SG SMS version A.01.00, the “.01” indicates Veritas ™ Storage Foundation version 4.1 and the “.00” indicates HP Serviceguard version A.11.17. For each SG SMS version number, the SG SMS product bundles within that version are supported on HP-UX 11i v2, on HP-UX 11i v3, or on both OS versions.
NOTE: The T8684EB and T8687EB bundles include the HAOE on a separate DVD, and the T8694EB and T8697EB bundles include the DCOE on a separate DVD. These SG SMS operating environment bundles offer cost savings over purchasing and installing a SG SMS bundle (T277xEB) and an HP-UX operating environment separately. Licensing fees for products that are included in both the SG SMS (T277xEB) bundle and the HP-UX operating environment are avoided when the T868xEB or T869xEB bundles are purchased.
NOTE: From HP-UX 11iv3, VxVM disks can be configured to use HP-UX native multipathing instead of the default Veritas DMP (Dymanic Multipathing) by declaring such disks as foreign devices in VxVM. These foreign devices bypass DMP, allowing HP-UX native multipathing to have full control on the disks with respect to multipathing and load balancing. However, CVM disks that are sharable VxVM disks must be configured to use DMP.
NOTE: ◦ IPv6 subnets for CSS-HB and RAC Interconnect are not supported in Oracle RAC 11gR2 or earlier. ◦ From Veritas Storage Foundation 5.1 SP1, LLT can be configured to use UDP for cross subnet configurations. Serviceguard also supports cross subnet configurations. However, the SG SMS integration scripts are not enhanced to configure LLT over UDP. Hence, SG SMS A.04.00 clusters will not support cross subnet configurations at the initial release.
• Partitioned directories — This feature creates partitioned directories to improve the directory performance of file systems. • SmartTier sub-file movement — Allows you to manage the placement of file objects or entire files on individual volumes. • Tuning performance optimization of inode allocation — Allows you to specify whether performance optimization of inode allocation and reuse during new file creation is turned on (or off).
NOTE: For more information on CFS features and enhancements that are supported with SG SMS version A.04.00 CFS bundles, see the Veritas Storage Foundation™ 5.1 SP1 Cluster File System Release Notes available at: www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs → HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite A.04.xx What’s Included in the HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite Version A.04.

NOTE: For information on devices that are supported with HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite products, see Device Support for Veritas Products on HP-UX, available at: http://docs.hp.com/ en/oshpux11iv3.html#VxFS Upgrading to a Different SG SMS Bundle Upgrades to HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite bundles can fall into any one of three categories: • Rolling Upgrade - The upgrade is done online.
NOTE: You might benefit from using Dynamic Root Disk (DRD) utilities to perform your uprade, if your upgrade is supported with DRD. See “Using Dynamic Root Disk Utilities (DRD) to upgrade to SG SMS A.04.00” (page 24) for more information. NOTE: Table 6 (page 22), is current as of the publication date of these Release Notes. The most recent information on supported bundle upgrade paths is available in the HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite Bundles - Supported Upgrade Paths Matrix available at: www.hp.
For more information on AUTOSTART_CMCLD, see the Setting up Autostart Features and Performing a Rolling Upgrade sections in Managing Serviceguard, Nineteenth Edition, available at www.hp.
4. Halt the cluster on the Group B nodes: a. Node 2 or Node 3> cmhaltcl -f 5. Start the cluster on the Group A cluster nodes (these are the nodes where the SG SMS version has already been upgraded): a. Node 1 > cmruncl –f –n node1 NOTE: Steps 6, 7, and 8 in this procedure can be performed on multiple nodes in parallel, or on one node at a time, before continuing to step 9. 6. 7. 8. 9.
NOTE: • Due to the issue in the VRTSvxvm pre-install script, DRD clone does not boot when an upgrade is made to A.04.00 from earlier bundles. Please use the functionally equivalent SG SMS version A.04.00.01 bundles containing the packaging fix required for the above mentioned problem, if you are upgrading. • If SG SMS A.02.01 is currently installed, and you plan to upgrade your SG SMS version using DRD, there is a known issue already documented in some versions of Serviceguard's checkinstall script.
NOTE: Before attempting a SG SMS bundle installation or upgrade, you must disable AUTOSTART_CMCLD. See “Disabling Cluster Auto-Start on Reboot” (page 22) NOTE: SG SMS Version A.04.00 bundles cannot be installed over OnlineJFS 5.0 (B3929FB), which is included with the HP-UX March 2011 OE Update Release for HAOE, and DCOE. To install a SG SMS Version A.04.00 bundle, follow these steps: 1. Remove B3929FB. If the bundle is not found, remove OnlineJFS01.VXFS50-AD-RN,r=5.0 and AONLINEJFS,r=B.05.00.01. 2.
c. d. Download the patches into a single file, extract the contents, and create a single depot using the instructions included with the download. Install the patches using the option “patch_match_target=true”. This ensures that only the patches from the depot that match the installed bundle are installed. 5. After installation of any required product patches is completed, run vxinstall. If vxinstall has already been run on the systems, this step may be skipped.
9. For new installations you will need to create an HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite cluster, see Managing Serviceguard 19th Edition for details on configuring the cluster. A high-level summary of the steps involved in using the Cluster File System includes: a. Create and start a Serviceguard cluster without a package using Serviceguard Manager or Serviceguard commands (cmquerycl, cmcheckconf, cmapplyconf, cmruncl). b.

Updating HP-UX and SG SMS When new HP-UX and SG SMS versions have to be installed, careful planning is required: • When the new SG SMS bundle version is only supported with the new HP-UX version, or the new HP-UX version is only supported with the new SG SMS bundle version, the update must be performed simultaneously, as described in:“Updating HP-UX and SG SMS Simultaneously” (page 30) • When both the currently installed versions of SG SMS and HP-UX, and the new versions of SG SMS and HP-UX that you plan
the depot when it is first created, but it is harmless to register it again just to be sure it is visible to other systems. To do this, enter: swreg -l depot @ /var/depots/my_hpux_depot NOTE: HP-UX 11i v3 and an HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite for HP-UX 11i v3 non-CFS bundle (T2774EB, T8684EB, or T8694EB) can be installed on each node as part of a rolling upgrade. See “Upgrading to a Different SG SMS Bundle” (page 21) for more information on rolling upgrades.
VRTSvxvm.VXVM-RUN,r=3.5~IA.014 - VRTSvxvm,r=4.1.032 replaces VRTSvxvm,r=3.5~IA.014 This message can be safely ignored when it refers only to one or more VRTS products. If this message is displayed in the update-ux interactive TUI (Terminal User Interface), simply press enter when prompted to do so, and continue with the update. For rolling upgrades, after installing HP-UX 11i v3 and a SG SMS bundle on a node, the node will rejoin the cluster automatically.
Removing HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite The SD-UX swremove command is used to uninstall the HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite software. The swremove command must be issued on one system at a time. NOTE: Before attempting to remove a SG SMS bundle: — Follow any guidelines for software removal of the individual products included in the HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite bundle. In general, products should be halted and unconfigured before removal.
Download the patches into a single depot and install using the option “patch_match_target=true”. This will install only the patches from the depot that match the installed bundle. Follow any special instructions included with the patches. Access to these patches requires a valid support contract and login to the HPSC. You can also search for individual patches on the Hewlett-Packard Support Center (HPSC) web site: www.hp.

SCSI-3 Persistent Reservations Support Not Required on Storage Devices The Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) relies on support of SCSI-3 Persistent Reservations on storage devices - this is part of the Veritas split brain prevention mechanism. HP Serviceguard uses a different and more robust method to prevent split brain - storage devices do not need to support SCSI-3 Persistent Reservations in an HP Serviceguard environment.
The software on the SG SMS DVD is installed using swinstall. If an HP-UX OE is installed on your system and you attempt to install a SG SMS OE version that is not supported with the versions of Serviceguard and ECMT included with the HP-UX OE, swinstall will detect the incompatible software and the installation will fail. The software on the HP-UX OE DVD is installed using update-ux.
