SMU also includes monitoring and diagnostic features that enhance the reliability,
availability, and serviceability (RAS) of your storage system. You can configure the
transmission of event notifications (alerts), which can be sent to the screen or to
email addresses, and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) traps, which
can be sent to an SNMP application. Events are also recorded in an event log on the
storage system from which they can be viewed.
In a dual-controller system, you can access all SMU functions from either
controller. If one controller becomes unavailable, you can continue to monitor and
manage the storage system from the partner controller.
Note – You can also monitor and manage storage using the scriptable command-
line interface (CLI), as described in the CLI reference guide.
Preparing to Use SMU
SMU supports the following browsers:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or later
Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 or later
Configure your browser as follows:
SMU uses pop-up windows to display various statistics and progress messages.
You must enable pop-up windows on your browser for proper operation.
Internet Explorer only:
When SMU’s web page caching mode is enabled, which is the default, you can
optimize performance by setting the browser never to check for newer
versions of stored pages.
Note – This setting is used for all sites you visit with the browser.
Clear the option Tools > Internet Options > Accessibility > Ignore Colors
Specified On Webpages.
To optimize the display, use a color monitor and set its color quality to the
highest setting.
To view animated status icons, set your browser to play animations.
To navigate beyond the Log In page (with a proper login):
Set your browsers local-intranet security option to medium or medium-low.
Verify that your browser is set to allow cookies for all sites, or at least for the
IP addresses of the storage system Ethernet management ports.
