Critical Pa tch Update
Each quarter Oracle issues a critical patch. These instructions are for installing O racle Patch 25, which
includes the Oracle July 2008 critical patch update and some additional software xes.
IMPORTANT:
HP Storage Essentials SRM is unavailable when installing the Oracle July 2008 CPU. Plan a non-peak
time to implement these steps.
The installation of the Oracle July 2008 patch fails on Windows servers when the user name is root.
To install the Oracle July 2008 critical patch update:
NOTE:
The script for installing the July 2008 CPU does not run if its directory path contains spaces, for example
/my patch/runCPUJul2008.cmd.
1. Export your database by using the Export Backup feature in the Da tabase Admin Utility. Th is export

Utility. T
he H P Storage Essentials SRM User Guide is accessible from the Documentation Center on
the HP Sto
rage Essentials management server. You will later need to use the Cold Backup feature
in the Database Admin Utility while the HP Storage Essentials management server is not running.
You cannot access the Documentation Center when the HP Storage Essentials management server
is not run
ning. It is recommended you save the User Guide to another location so you can easily
accessitwhenyouneedtodoaColdBackup.
IMPORTANT:
YouwillneedtostoptheAppstorManagerservicebeforeyoucanruntheDatabaseAdminUtility.The
AppStorManager service will sometimes hang if you try to stop it. If you have difculties with stopping
AppStor
Manager, set the service to Manual and then reboot the server.
2. Create a folder to contain the content of the zip archive, and name this new folder patch25.
3. Extra ct the content of the zip archive to patch25 folder.
4. Launchacommandlinewindowandmakepatch25 the current working subdirectory.
5. You must stop the following services if they are running:
