Discovery from HP SE
1. Discover your hosts as described in this section.
2. Build the topology. See ”Step C - (Discovery from HP SE Only)Build the Topology” on page 199.
3. If you want to view the topology, you can access System Manager. See ”(Optional) Step D -
(Discovery from HP SE Only)View the Topology” on page 200.
4. Perform Get Details. See ”Step E - Obtain Details” on page 201.
Use the following table as a guideline for SE discovery:
Table 1 (Discovery from HP SIM) Discovering Hosts
Step Description
1 If you have several hosts that use the same password and user name, set that
password and user name as the default. Use the Global Settings (Options >
Protocol Settings > Global Settings) feature to set your default passwords.
Refer to the documentation that ships with SIM for more information.
2Discover your host (Options > Discovery > Automatic).
One way to detect multiple IP addresses at once is to add an IP range for
scanning. The management server scans the IP range for elements and
populates the discovery list with element it could contact.
You can then discover those elements. See ”Adding an IP Range for
Scanning” on page 37 for more information.
4 Discovery Data Collection is required to obtain information from your
discovered elements. Discovery Data Collection takes some time. You might
want to perform this process when the network and the managed elements
are not busy. Click Options > Storage Essentials > Discovery > Run
Discovery Data Collection.
SeeStep E - Obtain Details” on page 201.
Table 2 Making the Management Server Aware of Hosts (SE Discovery Only)

click the Set Default User name and Password link and provide up to three user
names and passwords.
