Installing the Management Server on Microsoft Windows8
Dual box deployment - HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) and HP Storage Essentials (SE) are
installed on different servers. When you install HP SIM on a different server, skip ”Step 4 - Install
HP Systems Insight Manager” on page 14. After you install HP SIM by using the directions
provided in the HP SIM documentation, continue the installation steps with ”Step 5 - Install the
HP Storage Essentials Connector” on page 16.
Step 1 - Pre-installation Checklist
Verify that the following programs are installed on the central management server. The central
management server is the server you plan to install HP Systems Insight Manager:
Microsoft SNMP Trap Service
MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Component) v 2.7
Verify Network Settings
Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1
To verify whether you have these components:
1. Install the Microsoft SNMP Trap Service.
NOTE: Check the Windows Services (Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools >
Services) to see if the SNMP Trap Service is installed and running. If it is not installed,
follow the instructions in this section.
a. Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows
Components.
b. Select Management and Monitoring Tools and click Next.
c. Insert the Windows CD when prompted. Follow the wizard to install SNMP Trap Services.
The SNMP Trap Service starts.
2. Verify that Microsoft Access Data Components (MDAC) 2.7 Service Pack 1 or later is installed.
To verify if (MDAC) 2.7 Service Pack 1 or later is installed:
a. Navigate to C: \Program Files\Common Files\System\Ado.
b. Right-click the icon for the msado15.dll file.
c. In the pop-up menu, select Properties, and then click the Version tab to display the version
number.
d. If the file is not found in this path, use the Windows search engine to find the file.
e. If you must download MDAC, refer to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ and search for
MDAC Service Pack.
3. Verify the network configuration for the Central Management Station (CMS):
The CMS must have static or dynamic host name resolution. To verify that the server's name can
be resolved through DNS:
a. Right-click My Computer in the Start menu.
b. Select Properties.
