HP Storage Essentials V5.00.01 installation guide (T4283-96011, January 2006)

Installing the Management Server on Microsoft Windows16
Step 5 - Install the HP Storage Essentials
Connector
The HP Storage Essentials (SE) Connector lets you communicate with HP Systems Insight Manager.
Install the SE Connector on the same server running SE.
To install the SE Connector:
1. Make sure HP SE is not running. You can stop the service for HP SE (AppStorManager) from the
Services window on the server where you installed Storage Essentials.
2. Make sure the HP Systems Insight Manager process is running.
3. Insert the CD-ROM for installing the management server (Storage Essentials) in the CD-ROM
drive of the server running SE.
4. Double-click SIMConnectorInstall.exe in the top-level directory.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen for completing the installation.
6. When you see the HP SIM Information screen, provide the following information:
HP SIM Hostname - Name of the server on which you installed HP Insight Manager. Do not
use localhost.
HP SIM Administrator Name - Provide the Administrator name that is used to access
System Insight Manager. For Microsoft Windows systems, use domain\Administrator name
format.
HP SIM Administrator Password - Provide the password for the Administrator.
7. Complete the installation by following the instructions on the screen.
During the installation the HP SIM process is restarted.
8. Change the password for SIM_MANAGER, as described in the following steps.
IMPORTANT: This step only applies if you are using the same Oracle database as Storage
Essentials.
The information Storage Essentials and HP Systems Insight Manager share is stored in a
database with the user name SIM_MANAGER and the password quake. For security reasons, it
is strongly recommended you change the password for this database.
To change the password:
a. Log onto the server running HP Systems Insight Manager.
b. Stop the AppStorManager service if it is started.
c. Enter the following at the command prompt:
C:\> mxpassword -m -x MxDBUserPassword=mynewPass
where mynewPass is your new password for the Oracle database.
d. Stop the HP Systems Insight Manager service so that it cannot access the database. It is very
important that the HP Systems Insight Manager service does not access the Oracle database
before you are finished with changing the password for the Oracle database.
