About Policy Manager
Policy Manager can automatically send an e-mail, generate an event, or run a custom script when
an element is being overused or when one of the following occurs:
• A new element is discovered
• Successful provisioning occurred
• An event occurred on one or more specified elements
IMPORTANT: Policies are not triggered when a collector is running. For example, assume you
configured a policy to be triggered when a host has a critical event. If a collector is running when a
critical event occurs, the policy is not triggered. Collectors are used to gather information for reports,
monitoring and File System Viewer.
if the collector for a report or Performance Manager is running, the policy is not triggered.
Policy Manager lets you create the following types of policies:
• Utilization policies - Monitors the utilization of an element. Options provided depend on the
type of element.
For example, you can configure Policy Manager so you receive an e-mail message when the
amount of free space on a server decreases to a specified level.
