NOTE: Storage Mirroring only needs to be installed on the servers for which you want to collect data.
The collection server should NOT be running Storage Mirroring Application Manager or Storage Mirroring
Server Recovery Option. If one of these applications is inadvertently installed on top of Storage Mirroring
Reporting Center. See the
Readme.html document for a workaround.
A copy of Storage Mirroring Reporting Center
The server should meet the following minimum hardware requirements:
At least 1 GB of physical memory
At least 10 GB of free hard disk space
Intel P4-compatible CPU running at 1.2 GHz or higher
Configuring the SQL database
If you are using the default SQL Express database, you may skip this section and proceed to “Permissions
on page 10.
Data stores
When you install Storage Mirroring Reporting Center, two data stores are automatically created, which are
by default named
config and datamine. The following table describes the recommended minimum sizes
for these databases
The data stores require user IDs that Storage Mirroring Reporting Center uses to access these data stores.
Each of these user accounts will be owners of their respective data store. These account are created during
the Storage Mirroring Reporting Center installation. The login accounts must have full access to create and
drop tables as well as to update the tables that are created.
Permissions
Storage Mirroring Reporting Center requires the following permissions:
The username and password entered during installation is used to setup the Storage Mirroring
Reporting Center Collector service, which performs data gathering. This must be a Windows account
with Local Administrator permissions, which will enable it to gather data through WMI from the local
machine.
NOTE: You many use a local account that is part of the local Administrator's group, or a Domain User
account that is part of the local Administrator's Group, as long as the account is entered in the NTLM
domain\user” format. The UPN format,user@domain” will not work and the installation will fail.
If you are connecting the Storage Mirroring Reporting Center server to a pre-existing version of MSSQL,
the username and password you enter must have adequate permissions to access MSSQL and create
databases.
The username and password entered is used to connect to the Storage Mirroring Server and collect
local host data and Storage Mirroring specific data. To gather both Storage Mirroring and other server
configuration and performance data, an account must be specified in Storage Mirroring Reporting
Center when configuring a new host (called “Nodes”) to be monitored. The user account can be either
a local administrator account or a domain administrator account, but the account must have Local
Administrator and Storage Mirroring Administrator permissions on the Storage Mirroring node to be
monitored.
Database Name Minimum Size
config 150 MB
datamine 5 GB
