HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring Full-Server Failover Evaluation Guide (T2558-96331, April 2009)

Causing and verifying replication
In order to test replication, you need to change the data on your source. This includes modifying
existing files, creating new files, deleting files, and changing permissions and attributes.
1. On the source, browse through the directories and files contained on your source.
2. Select four files from your source and record the file information specified in the following table.
3. On your source, view the contents of one of your files from the table above. Make notes here of
the file contents, if necessary.

4. On your target, locate the four files that you have noted above from your source. They match
the files on the source.
5. Also on the target, view the contents of the file on the source that you viewed. It matches the
file on your source.
6. Back on your source, edit the file that you viewed above. Save your changes.
7. On your target, view that file again and see the changes you have made.
8. Back on your source, modify the other three files so that the date, time, and/or size is updated.
9. On your target, locate those same three files and see that they match the changes made on the
soruce.
After you have tested replication and verified the changes, you are ready to continue with the
evaluation.

NOTE: Many user applications typically save an entire file even though only a portion of the
file may have changed. In that case, the entire file will be transmitted, not just the
changed data. To transmit only the changed segments of files, you must use an
application, such as a database application, or a command, such as the echo
command, to save only the changed portions of a file.
