Protect a Hyper-V virtual machine using host-level protection
You can use the Storage Mirroring Console to protect virtual machines running on the
Microsoft Hyper-V platform. Storage Mirroring Recover replicates all of the files
associated with the virtual machine for one Microsoft Hyper-V host to another. You can:
Automate the discovery and protection of virtual machines.
Map the source virtual switches for a virtual machine to the available virtual
switches on the target Hyper-V host.
Monitor IP addresses and perform a manual failover when a failover condition is
met.
Bring the replica virtual machine online with the network adapters disabled,
allowing you to test the replica virtual machine while the source is still online.
Cluster workload protection
In a standard cluster configuration, a single copy of data resides on a SCSI disk that is
shared between cluster nodes. Data is available without users knowing which node
owns a cluster resource. MSCS handles failover between nodes of the cluster. By
adding Storage Mirroring Recover to this cluster environment, you can further protect
your data by replicating the cluster data to a target. In the event the cluster fails, your
cluster data will be available on the target.
