SNMP
SNMP, Simple Network Management Protocol, is the Internet's standard for remote
monitoring and management of hosts, routers and other nodes and devices on a
network. Storage Mirroring Recover provides an SNMP sub-agent that can be managed
from an SNMP Management Console.
Storage Mirroring Recover installs two components to work with SNMP.
The sub-agent is a program that installs and runs on the same machine as Storage
Mirroring Recover and gathers statistics, data, and traps. The sub-agent forwards
the information to the SNMP agent, which relays the information to the manager.
The Storage Mirroring Recover SNMP sub-agent is included in the Storage
Mirroring Recover installation program.
A Storage Mirroring Recover MIB file is placed on the administrator’s machine so
that the Management Console can interpret the data sent from the sub-agent. The
Storage Mirroring Recover .mib file is dt.mib and meets SNMP standards.
Configuring SNMP on your server
SNMP must be installed on a server before Storage Mirroring Recover in order for the
Storage Mirroring RecoverSNMP components to be added during the Storage Mirroring
Recoverinstallation. If SNMP is installed on a server after Storage Mirroring Recover is
installed, run a repair install to install the SNMP components.
The Storage Mirroring Recover .mib file will need to be loaded into your SNMP
Management Console. Depending on the type of console you are using, this process
might include compiling the .mib file. Reference your SNMP Management Console
documentation for additional information.
