HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring user's guide (T2558-96073, February 2008)

Storage Mirroring add-ons and features
Special Storage Mirroring add-ons and features build on the core Storage Mirroring techology. For example, the Server
Recovery Option add-on provides disaster recovery protection for an entire server. The Storage Mirroring Reporting Center
feature provides reporting and analysis tools for your entire Storage Mirroring environment.
The difference between add-ons and features is mainly licensing. You will need a separate activation code for Storage Mirroring
add-ons. Storage Mirroring features do not required separate licensing. Review the following sections to learn more about
the different add-ons and features.
Storage Mirroring Application Manager
The Storage Mirroring Application Manager feature helps you protect specific applications, such as Microsoft Exchange or
SQL. It is based on core Storage Mirroring techology, but it also automates application discovery and configuration. Using
information from Storage Mirroring and your network (Active Directory and DNS), the Storage Mirroring Application
Manager discovers the application and services used in your environment and automatically configures Storage Mirroring to
protect that environment.
Storage Mirroring Application Manager has its own installation and documentation. Download the Storage Mirroring
Application Manager from the HP web site and look for the file
Application_Manager_Users_Guide.pdf in the
directory where you installed the feature.
Server Recovery Option
The Storage Mirroring Server Recovery Option add-on protects an entire server. It is based on core Storage Mirroring
technology, but it also replicates a server’s system state. The system state is the server’s configured operating system and the
installed applications. With the data and system state replicated from the source to the target, in the event the source fails,
the source’s data and system state on the target can be used to quickly and easily create a new source.
Server Recovery Option is installed with Storage Mirroring, but is only activated with a Server Recovery Option activation
code.
