HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 5.2.1b Release Notes (AA-RWEYC-TE, June 2007)

Access Gateway allows a switch to operate in a special agmode that allows simplied connectivity
between large numbers of servers and the SAN. Access Gateway leverages NPIV (N_port ID
virtua lization) to hide the complexity of the servers (both physical and virtual) attached to it while allowing
easy SAN connectivity. The edge fabric switch provides all the fabric services while Access Gateway
connects to the edge switch by what appears as a Host Bus Adapter (HBA) connection. This architecture
allows the deployment of m a ny additional servers without requiring a domain and the associated fabric
rebuild trafc that is prevalent when switches are powered on, or added, or removed from a fabric.
Refer to the Brocade Access G ateway Administrator’s Guide available on h
ttp://ww w.hp.com/go/san
for more information.
Access Gate
way support in McData fabrics
In addition
to being supported in Brocad e fabrics, Access Gateway is suppor ted for connectivity to
McDATA fabr
ics running E/OS 09.00.00.
Dynamic Ports on Demand (DPOD)
IMPORTANT:
DPOD is supported only in the following H P product:
Brocade 4 Gb SAN Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem (Brocade 4024)
Please check h
ttp://www.hp.com for the latest updates.
DPOD is an optional feature on the embedded switches listed above. DPOD takes the expansion
capability of xed Ports on Demand (PODs) and adds the exibility of connecting to any available port
as long as a valid license is available. Previously, POD allowed only specic ports to be utilized. With
DPOD, any physically ava ilable port can be made a ctive as long as a valid license is available. This
allows customers the exibility of automatically changing port assignments where previously the port
assignments were xed and inexible.
Reliability, Availability, Serviceability (RAS)
Audit logging provides logs p er user-genera ted events, such as security violation, zoning, rmware
download, and conguration changes.
Conguration management enhancem ents improve switch availability by allowing Fabric Watch
and SNMP parameter changes to be non-disruptive.
Firmware upgrade enhancements provide clearer error messages and remove the need to enter
release.plist in the command line.
Daemon restart/monitoring restarts management daemons automatically when they fail without
switch reboot:
Simple Network Management Protocol Daemon (SNMPD)
Web Server Daemon (Webd)
Common Access Layer Daemon (CALD)
Remote Pro ce dure Call Da em on (RPCD)
Event Monitor Daemon (EVMD)
Asynchronous Response Router Daemon (ARRD) sends management data to hosts when
the switch is accessed via FA A PI or SMi-S.
Track Changes Daemon (Trackd)
Port Mirroring captures trafc between two devices for non-disruptive trafc analysis (available on
the SAN Switch 4/32, 4/64 SAN Switch, 4/256 SAN Director, and 400 MP Router).
