HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 5.2.1b Release Notes (AA-RWEYC-TE, June 2007)

CAUTION:
Install port blades like the HP StorageWorks 4/48 SAN Director Blade (FC4 –48) only after upgrading
to Fabric OS 5.2.0a or later.
HP does not support directly upgrading from more than two previous releases. For example, upgrading
from Fabric OS 5.0.x to 5.2.1b is supported, but upgrading from Fabric OS 4.4.0 or a previous release
directly to 5.2.1b is not.
Upgrading a switch from Fabric OS 4.4.0 or a p revious release to 5.2.1b re quires a two-step process:
rst upgrade to Fabric OS 5.0.x or 5.1.x and then upgrade to 5. 2.1b.
The following conditions must be met before upgrading to Fabric OS 5.2.1b:
Device-based routing must not be in use, otherwise the upgrade will fail. You can use the
aptPolicy command to verify the routing policy.
Chassis conguration op tions 3 and 4 a re no longer supported for the 4/256 SAN Director.
CAUTION:
If the 4/256 SAN D irector integrates the FC4– 48 blade or any n ew software features in Fabric OS
5.2.0a, such as FCR trunking, you cannot downgrade below Fabric OS 5.2.0a. If you want to do so, you
must (a) remove these features, (b) physically remove the blade, and then (c) downgrade the rmware.
For any oth
er new software features or increased scalability limits supported by Fabric OS
5. 2.1b, downgrade will be disruptive and require cold reboot.
AFabricOS5.2.1bconguration le cannot be used on the same switch after the switch has
been downgraded to rmware version 5. 0.x or 5 .1.x.
When you d
owngrade to Fabric OS 5.0.x, you must also remove additional 5.1.x features
and any installed B-Series MP Router blades.
Fabric OS 5.2.1b updates
The following sections list important updates.
MS A 1000 and MSA 1500
For the F
C4–48, if an MSA 1000 or MSA 1500 is directly connected to ports 32–47 of the blade,
it will log in as a G-por t. This has been seen on both active-active (v7.00.B700) and active-passive
(v4.24.B272) MSA rmware. Ports 0 through 31 of this card log in correctly as F-por t s.
To prevent this from occurring when running Fabric OS 5.2.0b, simply move the MSA connections to
lower ports.
F abric OS versions 5 .2.1 and 5.2.1a not released or supported
Please note that HP did not release Fabric OS versions 5 .2.1 or 5.2.1a. All xes to Fabric OS versions
5.2.1 and 5.2.1a are reected in this current Fabric OS 5.2.1b release.
Devices connected to the 400 MP Router or MP Router Fibre Channel ports
In rare instances, devices connected directly to the 400 MP Router or MP Router Blade Fibre Channel
ports
may not be discovered. The workaround is to perform an operating system I/O re-scan to
re-establish device connectivit y.
