HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Installation Guide (T3680-96092, October 2012)

Ensure that the TEMP environment variable points to the existing TEMP folder.
You can install replication manager server and host agent software on a domain system or
on a cluster node.
After installing the software, the following licenses are required to use replication and application
features:
HP P6000 Business Copy (snapshots, snapclones, and mirrorclones)
HP P6000 Continuous Access (data replication)
You must have sufficient licenses for the capacity of each array where snapshots, snapclones, and
mirrorclones will be made or that will be the source or destination of replicated data. See the
QuickSpecs for HP P6000 Business Copy and HP P6000 Continuous Access for more information.
You must also have licenses for thin provisioning and DC-Management.
Management server types
You can install the server software on the following types of servers:
General-purpose server—A server that runs customer applications, such as file and print
services.
Dedicated management server—A Windows host that is intended solely for HP storage software,
such as HP OpenView Storage Node Manager, HP OpenView Storage Area Manager add-on
software modules, or HP P6000 software.
HP X3000 Network Storage Gateway—A server similar to a general-purpose server; it can
be used to manage arrays in the SAN as well as traditional NAS-based applications.
For hardware and software specifications, see the HP P6000 Enterprise Virtual Array Compatibility
Reference.
Installation requirements
Before installing the software, you must:
Have administrator privileges
Install HP P6000 Command View on one of the following:
The management server for server-based management
The management module for array-based management
Ensure that the appropriate groups and users are created on the management server. See
“Setting credentials (page 8) for more information.
Ensure that there is at least 1 GB of free disk space on the installation drive.
Installation tips
When installing over a network, use Terminal Services and Add or Remove Programs to install
or remove the software.
For Windows, ensure that Terminal Services is configured for administrator mode.
In remote replication configurations, HP recommends installing the server software on the same
management server type at the local and remote sites.
If the files that exist on the management server or host server are newer than the software
installation files, HP recommends that you do not replace these files.
The replication manager can be installed on a separate server from HP P6000 Command
View. However, the replication manager requires that HP SMI-S be on the same server. If HP
SMI-S was not previously installed, the replication manager will install it.
