HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Administrator Guide (T3680-96069, June 2012)

RemarksMirrorclone state
mirrorclone. It becomes a normal virtual disk.
Instant restore
The instant restore feature is available only with certain controller software versions. Restore
operations are instantaneous because the restored data is available within seconds for host
reads/writes (the actual data transfer occurs in the background).
The following types of instant restore are available:
Instant restore from mirrorclones. The content of a virtual disk is instantly restored by copying
point-in-time data from the disk's mirrorclone.
Instant restore from snapclones. The content of a virtual disk is instantly restored by copying
point-in-time data from the disk's snapclone.
Instant restore from snapshots. The content of a virtual disk is instantly restored by copying
point-in-time data from one of the disk's snapshots.
Guidelines for instant restore
The following are general guidelines for instant restore:
Instant restore is not supported for a snapclone copy of a host volume if a snapshot is present
for the same host volume.
You cannot perform an instant restore from a mirrorclone if its parent is a DR group destination
virtual disk.
You can perform an instant restore from a mirrorclone only if it is in the fractured state.
When the mirrorclone is synchronized with the source, do not perform an instant restore from
snapshots of mirrorclones for the host volume, even if the instant restore option is enabled. HP
recommends that instant restore be disabled for snapshot of mirrorclone
A snapshot cannot be presented when performing an instant restore from a snapshot.
A mirrorclone cannot be presented when performing an instant restore from a mirrorclone.
To ensure data integrity, an instant restore should be performed only on an unmounted,
unpresented virtual disk. See “Using instant restore when a virtual disk is mounted” (page 15).
Before a Windows host can access the restored data, you must unmount the host volume,
unpresent the underlying virtual disk for the host volume, and then present it back with the
same mount point.
Instant restore is not possible if the target of the restore is:
A member of a DR group
Presented to a host (applies to instant restore from snapclones only)
A mirrorclone and you are trying to restore a snapshot from the mirrorclone
