HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Administrator Guide (T3680-96069, June 2012)

3 Managing the replication manager
This chapter explains how to perform common management tasks.
Getting started
It is important that you understand the replication manager environment, and that you properly
plan the hardware and software installation. The replication manager environment consists of a
central server and several interacting host agent computers.
The replication manager consists of two separate software pieces:
Host agent software is operating system-specific software that enables interaction between a
host and the replication manager server. You install the host agent software on a supported
host server. There is no user interface associated with the host agent software.
Server software contains an internal database of available resources, jobs, job instances, and
replication manager events; a GUI and job engine; and a CLUI. You use the server software
to manage replication on HP storage arrays.
See the HP P6000 Enterprise Virtual Array Compatibility Reference for information to help you
plan the server software installation.
See the HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Installation Guide for information about the
software downloads and CDs, as well as prerequisites, tips, and instructions for installing the
software.
Best practices
This section describes best practices to ensure optimal performance.
Shutting down a server in a replication manager environment
Before you shut down the replication manager server, ensure that there are no jobs currently
running.
CAUTION: In a replication manager environment, shutting down the replication manager server
disrupts the HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager and the HP P6000 Command View
applications.
Before shutting down the replication manager server:
Click the Job tab, and ensure there are no jobs running.
Allow all jobs to complete before initiating the shutdown procedure.
Execute the netstat -a command, and observe the following:
No users have browsed to the replication manager (port 4096).
No users have connected to the CLUI via Telnet (port 9000).
No users are on the CLUI client (port 9001).
