Minimizing simultaneous job execution
Minimize simultaneous job execution, even if the jobs involve different arrays. Running too many
replication manager jobs at the same time can reduce the overall responsiveness of the replication
manager and of other applications running on the replication management server.
Monitoring snapshot space
The available capacity required in a disk group for a demand-allocated snapshot depends on how
much of the source disk is modified. This value is unique for each application, but can range from
0% to 100% of the source disk capacity. If you do not know the capacity required for a
demand-allocated snapshot, HP recommends that you take measurements to determine how much
the source virtual disk will change during the period you need the demand-allocated snapshot,
and ensure 150% of that amount of space is available in the disk group containing the snapshot
for the entire life of the snapshot.
For example, if you are using a demand allocated snapshot for backup of two 500-GB virtual
disks, you would measure how much (GB) these 500-GB volumes change during the period of
your backup window and then ensure you have 150% of that amount of space available in the
disk group before starting your backup.
It is not necessary to reserve 150% of the anticipated space available in the disk group; as little
as 100% will work. However, if the availability of the demand-allocated snapshot is critical for
application availability (such as backup), overestimating the requirements for free space may be
warranted.
Adding and removing user accounts
The replication manager uses the local or domain operating system security to authenticate users.
On the management server, replication manager users and administrators must be members of the
following user groups which are created during installation:
HP Storage Admin—Members can view and perform all replication tasks.
HP Storage User—Members can view only replication information.
NOTE: Users and administrators can be members of either the local or domain group. The
software checks for the appropriate group based on the authorization mode (local versus domain)
and the groups chosen during installation.
