HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Administrator Guide (T3680-96069, June 2012)

You can avoid the pop-up windows by not logging in to the Windows host desktop. The replication
manager host agent runs as a Windows service and does not require that a user be logged in to
the desktop.
Avoiding device removal pop-ups on Windows hosts
When the replication manager unmounts a host volume, a Windows host may display a pop-up
window indicating that a device has been removed unsafely. The pop-up does not indicate a
problem; click OK to close it. The pop-ups do not need to be closed for the replication manager
to operate properly, but if not cleared, they can accumulate on the desktop and consume host
memory.
You can avoid pop-up windows by not logging into the Windows host desktop. The replication

the desktop.
Mounting host volumes on Windows hosts running VSS software
The replication manager dynamic mount functions CreateHostVolume and MountHostVolume
are incompatible with some Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) software.
Resolution: Do not use these functions on Windows hosts that are running VSS-compliant software,
such as HP Data Protector.
Windows host agent and Microsoft Cluster Server coexistence
HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager can coexist with Microsoft Cluster Server software. The
HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager host agent can be installed and run on all nodes in the
cluster. However, in different scenarios, there are limitations to this coexistence.
Scenario: When a host is added to HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager using a virtual
IP, the resources (volumes/disks) corresponding to the resource group to which the IP belongs
are reported. The noncluster resources visible to the node that owns the virtual IP are also
reported.
Limitations:
If a cluster failover occurs while a job is running, the job may fail. You must manually
restart the job.
For Windows only—Replication jobs having such a host as target/mount_host is not
supported.
In a configuration where virtual IP has no DNS name assigned, adding a host to HP
P6000 Replication Solutions Manager fails.
Scenario: When a host is added to HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager using an
individual node IP/hostname, the resources (volumes/disks) accessible by the node are
reported.
Limitations:
Replication of quorum disk is not supported. However, replication of other resources are
supported.
Replication job having this host as target/mount_host does not add the replica to any
resource group.
NOTE: Before running a job that uses a resource which is part of a cluster group, ensure
that the cluster group is active on the node added to HP P6000 Replication Solutions
Manager.
