HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Administrator Guide (T3680-96069, June 2012)

1 Replication manager overview
HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager (the replication manager) is a graphical and command-line
user interface for managing data replication on HP storage arrays. It is provided with licensed
replication features, including HP P6000 Business Copy, HP P6000 Continuous Access, HP P6000
DC-Management, and thin provisioning.
IMPORTANT: HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager (formerly HP StorageWorks Replication
Solutions Manager) supports all HP P6000/EVA models. General references to HP P6000
Replication Solutions Manager can also refer to earlier versions of the replication manager.
This chapter describes replication manager features and concepts. For operational procedures,
see the online help.
NOTE: In addition to HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager, you can also use HP P6000
Command View (formerly HP StorageWorks Command View EVA) or the HP Storage System
Scripting Utility (SSSU) to perform many replication tasks.
Replication manager features
You can use the replication manager to:
Automatically discover arrays, virtual disks, and hosts.
Present virtual disks for host access.
Copy virtual disks and host volumes using snapshot, snapclone, and mirrorclone technology.
Remotely replicate and fail over virtual disks.
Group and replicate resources as a unit called a managed set.
Dynamically mount virtual disks on enabled hosts.
Automate replication tasks using replication manager jobs and schedule jobs for future
purposes.
Monitor replication status by array.
Back up and restore replication manager configuration and jobs.
Visually manage replication resources using the topology viewer.
Configure security using operating system-based authentication and user administration with
audit capabilities.
Integrate with a variety of backup and recovery solutions.
Create round-robin snapshots and snapclones of host volumes using the host volume replication
wizard. The oldest replica is deleted automatically, allowing the space it occupied to be
reused.
Create virtual disks, containers and data replication (DR) groups
Manually or automatically perform HP P6000 DC-Management
Use IPv6 support for host agents (Linux, HP-UX, OpenVMS, Windows) and replication manager
server
Use VEX_Ports for Fibre Channel routing over a VE_Port
Create thin provisioned virtual disks
Perform LUN or RAID migration
The following sections explain some of these features. Snapshots, snapclones, and other replication
concepts are described later in this chapter.
