Glossary
This glossary defines terms that are used in this guide or are related to the software.
A
array A synonym of storage array, storage system, and virtual array. A group of disks in one or more
disk enclosures combined with controller software that presents disk storage capacity as one or
more virtual disks.
C
CIMOM Common Information Model Object Manager.
D
DNS Domain Name Service.
DR group Data replication group. A logical group of virtual disks that is in a remote replication relationship
with a corresponding group on another array.
E
enabled host A host that is equipped with a replication manager host agent.
Enterprise Virtual
Array
An HP disk array product that allows pooled disk capacity to be presented to hosts as one or
more variably sized physical devices. An Enterprise Virtual Array consists of disks, controllers,
cables, power supplies, and controller software. Storage system, virtual array, and storage array
are other names for an Enterprise Virtual Array.

failover The process that occurs when one device assumes the workload of a failed companion device.
Failovers can be planned or unplanned.

general-purpose
server
A server that runs customer applications, such as file and print services.
H
HBA Host bus adapter.
host A computer that runs user applications and uses the information stored on an array.

jar Java archive.
JNDI Java Naming and Director Interface.
JNI Java Naming Interface.
job A repeatable custom script that automates replication tasks. A job can be simple (for example,
create a DR group) or complex (for example, perform cascaded replication). Jobs can be run
from the GUI, from the command line, from batch files, or by a scheduler.
JRE Java Runtime Environment.
