Review configuration
requirements.
See Chapter 2 for configuration requirements, including

Set up the DNS
hostname.
Matrix Server requirements for DNS are located in
section “1. Set Up the DNS Hostname” on page 11.
Configure the server for
WINS clients.
This step is needed only if the server will be accessed by
WINS clients.
Install a firewall
(optional).
If you will be installing a firewall, ensure that the service
ports required by Matrix Server are open.
Install an HBA driver. Install a supported HBA driver that is appropriate for your
server.
Reboot the server. You may also want to do a backup.
Install HBA API libraries. This step is needed only for Emulex HBAs.
Configure the storage
array.
Set up the storage array as described in the array
product documentation.
Install the iSCSI initiator
(iSCSI only).
Install the Microsoft iSCSI initiator on each server
according to the product documentation.
Install third-party MPIO
software (optional).
If you will be using third-party MPIO software, install it
according to the product documentation.
Configure FC switches if
necessary.
The switches that will be under matrix control need to be
configured to enable matrix operations across the SAN.
Create LUNs or disk
partitions for use as
membership partitions.
Create LUNs for Matrix Server membership partitions.
Also make any necessary changes to the partition tables
on disks that will contain membership partitions.
Log into the iSCSI
targets (iSCSI only).
On each server, log into the iSCSI targets via the iSCSI
initiator.
Run the PolyServe
mxcheck utility.
This utility verifies that the server’s configuration meets
the requirements for running Matrix Server.
Install Matrix Server. Install the software on each server that will be in the
matrix.
Install snapshot
software (optional).
This step is needed only if you will be using the hardware
snapshot feature.
Configure the matrix. Create an initial matrix configuration on one server,
export that configuration to the other servers, and then
start the Matrix Server service on all servers.
