2 Install HP Scalable NAS and FS
Option for Linux
This chapter describes how to perform a new installation of HP Scalable NAS and,
optionally, FS Option for Linux.
Supported operating systems and kernels
HP Scalable NAS and FS Option for Linux 3.7.0 are supported on both Red Hat
Linux 5 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10. The following operating system versions
and kernels are supported.

HP Scalable NAS kernels
HP Scalable NAS provides the following kernels for both RHEL5 and SLES10.
• Binary kernels that include the vendor patches and HP Scalable NAS and FS
Option for Linux patches.
• Patched source kernels for sites that need to build a custom kernel or compile
third-party kernel modules.
• Debug kernels for more advanced diagnostic purposes.
For each operating system, HP Scalable NAS provides a consolidated kernels RPM,
pmxs-<os>-kernels-3.7.0-<xxxx>.<arch>.rpm, that includes the binary,
