3.7.0 HP StorageWorks HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software installation guide HP Scalable NAS for Linux (AG513-96004, October 2009)

5. Install the kernels RPM
The pmxs-<os>-kernels-3.7.0-<xxxx>.<arch>.rpm package includes RPMs
for the binary kernel, the source kernels, and the debug kernels. OS-specific versions
of the kernels RPM are included in the HP Scalable NAS product distribution. (See
Supported operating systems and kernels, page 15, for a complete list of the kernels.)
To install the kernels RPM, run this command:
# rpm -i pmxs-<os>-kernels-3.7.0-<xxxx>.<arch>.rpm
The installation creates the directory structure /opt/polyserve/lib/kernels.
You will find RPMs for the binary, source, and debug kernels in the kernels
directory.
6. Install the HP Scalable NAS kernel
The HP Scalable NAS binary kernels include both vendor and HP patches. If you will
be using the binary kernel, complete these steps:
1. Run the following command to install the kernel corresponding to your operating
system:
# rpm -ihv kernel-HPPS-<os>.3.7.0<xxxx>.<arch>.rpm
2. Verify the bootloader. Check the file /boot/grub/menu.1st and verify that
the default is set to the HP binary kernel.
3. Reboot the system.
NOTE:
If you need to compile third-party kernel modules or build a custom kernel, see
Appendix B, page 61.
7. Install third-party MPIO software (optional)
HP recommends that Device Mapper Multipath, the Linux-based MPIO solution, be
used in HP Scalable NAS clusters. Other MPIO solutions such as the HP Scalable
NAS mxmpio command, the QLogic failover feature, and third-party MPIO software
can also be used. Note the following:
