3.7.0 HP StorageWorks HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software installation guide HP Scalable NAS for Linux (AG513-96004, October 2009)

Scalable NAS features such as clustered PSFS filesystems, the administrative filesystem,
NFS file services, Samba/CIFS file services, hardware snapshots, cluster security,
replication, the Performance Dashboard, and the event notification system.
IMPORTANT:
The replication feature has performance implications for the cluster. Before
implementing replication, be sure to review the section Replication tuning in Chapter
14,Configure and manage replication, of the
HP Scalable NAS File Serving
Software administration guide
.
Administer init.d scripts
When services such as NFS or Samba are configured on PSFS filesystems, HP Scalable
NAS must be started before the service is started. To ensure that HP Scalable NAS
starts before the service, modify the /etc/init.d script for the desired service and
add pmxs as a dependency.
For example, on SLES10, locate the line in the /etc/init.d/nfs script beginning
with # Required-Start: and add pmxs to the end of the line. Change:
# Required-Start: $network $portmap
to:
# Required-Start: $network $portmap pmxs
Enable NFS file locking if necessary
When FS Option for Linux is installed, NFS file locking is disabled by default. See
the HP Scalable NAS File Serving Software administration guide (Using the NLM
Protocol in the chapter Configure FS Option for Linux) for information about why
file locking is disabled and how to enable it if necessary.
Determine whether the SizingActions script should be used
HP Scalable NAS includes a script called SizingActions that configures certain
operating system parameters to improve system performance, particularly in a file
serving environment. The changes improve network throughput and make better use
system memory. On HP X5500 Storage Gateway for Linux/HP Scalable NAS
Clustered Gateway servers and HP 4400 Scalable NAS File Services systems,
