Configuring the array CV workstation
Configure the disk array Command View server as explained below. VDS only requires
that you do step 1. All other steps support VSS:
1. If desired, co
nnect the corporate Ethernet L AN to the CV workstation through
a fi rewall. Ma
ke sure the firewall is open between the CV workstation and the
VDS/VSS server(s).
2. If multipathing is desired, verify existing or install HP M PIO Full-Featured Failover
Manager as explained in the documentation for that product.
3. Verify existing or ad d a license for Business Copy in Command View acc ording to
the instr
uctions in the Command View EVA Network Administra tion Guide.
Configuring the VDS/VSS Server
The VDS/VSS server contains the applications that create and store d ata. Install and
configure the server as follows:
1. If it is not already present, install the Windows 2003 Enterprise Ser ver OS on the
host according to Microsoft’s installation instructions.
2. If multipathing is desired, install the HP MPIO Full-Featured software according
to the documentation for that product.
3. Install a Fibre Channel host bus adapter (HBA) card into the server according to the
HBA manufacturer’s instructions.
4. Install the HBA driver and utilit y software onto the ser ver according to the HBA
manufacturer’s instructions. HP tested drivers a re available by searching hp.com;
follow the README file for installation.
5. Connect the server to the disk array through a fabric switch and SAN topology
configured a c cording to the m anufacturer’s instructions.
6. Connect the server to the corporate Ethernet LAN, through a firewall if desired. Be
sure the firewall is open between the CV and VDS/VSS server(s). Use a ping
command to test commun ication between servers. The Hardware Providers use ports
12301and2301;theseportsmustbeavailableinorderforHWPtofunction.
7. Complete configuration in this chapter and then install the required HP H WP
software on the server as explained in “Chapter 3 Installation.”
Configuring additional servers
An additional server for managing data copies is optional, and its configuration
depends on your specific application. If you plan to use additional servers, con figure
them acco rding to the preceding instructions.
