Glossary
BC Operations Business Copy Operations; local replication like
snapshot, snapclone, mirrorclone.
DC-Management Dynamic Capacity Management enables you to extend
(increase) or shrink (decrease) the size of a host volume
based on storage requirements, without disrupting the
host I/O.
ESX VSphere A software suite designed to centralize and optimize
desktop management and data center resources through
virtualization. Every component of the suite can function
with diverse operating systems, applications, and
hardware devices.
EVA Enterprise Virtual Array is virtualized HP storage array.
LUN Logical Unit Number is a unique ID assigned to virtual
disks in a storage system.
RDM Raw Device Mapping; When a host volume is not
controlled and formatted by a host file system, it is
termed a raw disk or raw storage. Typically, the host’s
I/O with a raw disk is under the direct control of a
database or a similar application. Raw disks are
typically used to improve I/O performance or facilitate
the creation disk-image copies
SAN
Storage Area Network is an architecture used to
virtually connect various systems to a server.
VMFS Virtual Machine File System is used for storing virtual
disk information and snapshots.
WWN World Wide Name is a unique ID used to identify a
particular Fibre Channel target.
