HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Installation Guide (T3680-96092, October 2012)
Upgrade and reinstallation tips
When upgrading or reinstalling the server software, consider the following:
• If upgrading on a machine that has only HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager version
5.3, 5.4, 5.5 installed, or version 5.6 (in case of reinstallation), you must:
1. Remove the installed version of the replication manager with the option of exporting the
database.
2. Install HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Version 5.6 and import the database.
• Ensure that all jobs are complete before upgrading the software.
• If prompted during the upgrade process, reboot the management server.
• The current software will discover which version is installed, and you will see a blue bar
indicating that the software is being installed.
• For information about supported upgrade paths, see the HP P6000 Enterprise Virtual Array
Compatibility Reference.
• If you cancelled the database migration during an upgrade, you are prompted to restart the
services.
• After upgrading the server software, the events of the previous version will not be available
in the current version.
• Prior to removing or upgrading the RSM server, export the database to retain your original
configuration settings.
• After uninstalling the previous version of the server software, the replication manager prompts
for a reboot when you upgrade.
• Do not modify or delete the vpd folders, in the following location: <system
drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Universal. Changes
in this folder will affect reinstallation or removal efforts.
Verifying the installation
To verify that the software was installed successfully, ensure that:
• The software icon appears on the desktop.
• The software is available from the Start menu (Start→Programs→HP Replication Solutions
Manager).
• HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager is listed in Add or Remove Programs.
Removing the server software
When removing the server software, consider the following:
• To prevent data loss, allow all replication jobs to run to completion, or disable scheduled jobs
before removing the software.
• Removing the software over a network without remote connection software is not supported
and could cause errors.
• Close all applications and windows open on the management server.
