3 Host agent software
This chapter describes how to install and remove the host agent software, which must be installed
on every host that interacts with the replication manager.
Operating system requirements
This section describes requirements for installing the host agent software by operating system.
HP-UX
Before installing the host agent software, install JRE 1.4. If the recommended JRE version is not
found, the installation stops and displays a message.
Table 1 (page 15) lists patches that should be applied for an HP-UX installation.

HP OpenVMS on Alpha and Integrity servers
The operating system version for HP OpenVMS must be 8.3 or 8.4, with a TCP/IP minimum version
of 5.6-9.
The OpenVMS host agent software for both Alpha and Integrity platforms does not check for all
external patch dependencies. For the complete list of dependencies, see the HP P6000 Replication
Solutions Manager Release Notes.
The host agent software CD includes two SNIA libraries for Alpha servers:
• HBA_VMS.EXE
• LIBHBAAPI.EXE
To ensure that the host agent software on the HP OpenVMS (Alpha) host works properly, the latest
versions of both libraries are required in SYS$LIBRARY. Compare the versions of the libraries on
the CD against those listed in SYS$LIBRARY. If the versions on the CD are later, copy the SNIA
libraries from the CD to SYS$LIBRARY, and then restart the host agent.
Patches are available for download on the HP IT Resource Center website: http://www.itrc.hp.com.
Browse to the OVMS patches; you must register and log in to retrieve patches.
