HP StorageWorks Enterprise File Services WAN Accelerator 3.0.4 deployment guide (AG421-96001, March 2007)

108 11 - NETWORK FILE SYSTEM OPTIMIZATION
About NFS Prefetch Policies
For each HP EFS WAN Accelerator, you can specify the policy it follows when
prefetching data from NFS servers and volumes. You can choose from the following
policies for all or specific NFS servers or volumes:
Global read/write. (Default.) Choose this policy when the data on the NFS
server or volume can be accessed from any client, including LAN clients and
clients using other file protocols. This policy ensures data consistency but does
not allow for the most aggressive data optimization.
Read-only. Choose this policy when the server or volume is read-only. This
policy allows for aggressive data optimization because consistency is not a
concern with read-only data.
Custom. Choose this option use a custom NFS prefetch policy.
For security, if you choose a custom policy for all or a specified volume, you can
choose to also enable root squashing. For information on root squashing, refer to
your operating system documentation.
You choose the NFS prefetch policy when you configure NFS settings.
IMPORTANT: You must ensure that the policy is set correctly. Setting the policy to Read-only
on a non read-only file system results in Read-Only file system (ROFS) errors.
For information and detailed instructions, see the HP Enterprise File Services WAN
Accelerator Management Console User Guide.
Implementing NFS
This section describes basic steps for using the HP EFS WAN Accelerator
Management Console (Management Console) to implement NFS. For detailed
procedures, see the HP Enterprise File Services WAN Accelerator Management
Console User Guide.
