An upgrade performed while the subsystem is up and running is known as a
“Rolling Upgrade”. This type of upgrade does not require a shutdown and restart
of the subsystem for the upgrade changes to take effect.
Recommendations for doing a rolling upgrade are:
Upgrade when disk activity is at a minimum.
Have at least two good flashcard copies of the ACS V8.8-1 firmware.
Check the disks and disable writeback cache on all units by typing the
following commands. Make a note of all units changed.
HSG80> show d1
HSG80> set d1 nowriteback_cache
Ensure that mirrored cache is disabled by typing:
HSG80> set this nomirrored_cache
Allow two minutes for storage recovery after each controller has been
upgraded.
After upgrading the second controller, a manual restart is required.
In some cases a vgchange –a y must be invoked to bring the volume group
back online. This is due to a path change or time out of the volume group.
