/var/adm/syslog

The steamd.log resides in this directory and can grow large depending on the

amount of events your storage system has reported. It is recommended that you

have at least 250 mb of available space in your

/var directory initially to support

the SWCC Agent event logging system. You can clean the log by using an editor

such as

vi or move the log to a backup area and create a new empty file with touch

vi.

Preparing for the Installation

1. Start by checking the current operation system by typing:

#uname -a

Check the memory on your machine during a peak time by typing:

#top

2. Check the disk space on your logical volumes to ensure you have the

minimum space required to install and run the SWCC Agent. To do this type;

#bdf

Installing the Agent

There are two types of installation for the SWCC Agent: A Graphical User

Interface (GUI) and the Character Terminal User Interface (CUI) installation

process. Follow the procedure below for the GUI installation.

1. Down load the .tar file from the following web site

http://h18006 .www1.hp.com/products/s torageworks/ma8kema12k/kits.html

2. Execute the command

#tar -xvf J88_HPUX.tar

3. Start the installation script to activate the SWCC Agent install by typing:

# cd/J88

then

#./install.sh

If the GUI screen is invoked, the main menu in Figure 36 is displayed. Otherwise,

go to "Character-based (CLI) Installation Procedure", page 138.
