IMPORTANT:
Only 32-bit (X86) JRE version is supported on both the 32-bit (X86) and 64-bit (X64) host agent
platforms.
Only IA64-bit JRE version is supported on the IA64-bit host agent platforms.
For a Linux host agent, the JRE must be installed using its .rpm package. It ensures that the JRE
gets registered with the RPM database.
Configuring settings on Windows and UNIX hosts
You must configure the following settings on your Windows and UNIX hosts prior to installing the
respective host agents:
Getting administrator privileges on a Windows or UNIX host on page 35
Setting up the HP-UX, Solaris, and AIX hosts on page 35
Setting up a Linux host on page 35
Setting up a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4.0 host on page 36
Getting administrator privileges on a Windows or UNIX host
Administrative or root privileges on hosts is required before you install the Windows or UNIX host
agent. Verify and get the required privileges for your user account before installing the Windows or
UNIX host agent.
Setting up the HP-UX, Solaris, and AIX hosts
Before installing the P9000 Performance Advisor host agent on an HP-UX, Solaris, or AIX host, ensure
that the following prerequisites are completed:
1. You must have root or superuser access to the host.
2. Telnet and FTP services are enabled (on HP-UX, Solaris, and AIX hosts, these services are enabled
by default).
3. Configure the root or superuser account to allow remote access via the FTP services.
Setting up a Linux host
Before installing the P9000 Performance Advisor host agent on a Linux host, ensure that the following
prerequisites are completed:
1. You must have a root or superuser access to the host.
2. Configure the root or superuser account to allow remote access via the FTP services by
completing the following steps:
a. Run the /usr/sbin/ntsysv command and enable wu-ftpd
b. Edit /etc/pam.d/ftp by commenting out the line with #: auth required /lib/se-
curity/pam_listfile.so item=user sense=deny file=/etc/ftpusers
onerr=succeed
c. Edit /etc/ftp users by removing or commenting out the line with #: root
d. Edit /etc/ftpaccess as follows:
Change allow-uid ftp to allow-uid ftp root
Change allow-gid ftp to allow-gid ftp root
