HP StorageWorks P9000 Performance Advisor Software v5.3 Install Guide (T1789-96323, August 2011)

Assigning ports for P9000 Performance Advisor on the management station
NOTE:
This section is applicable only if you want to install P9000 Performance Advisor on the management
station. This information is not applicable if you want to perform an upgrade procedure.
Port 80 on your management station is the default port that the HP StorageWorks P9000 Performance
Advisor Tomcat service in P9000 Performance Advisor uses for all its communications. However, you
can configure P9000 Performance Advisor to use a different port by specifying that port number
during the installation. The same port number should be specified during the Windows and UNIX
host agents installation, so that the host agents can communicate with P9000 Performance Advisor.
IMPORTANT:
If Adobe Flash Player v9.0.115.0 or later is installed on your management station, it blocks
commonly reserved ports as a security measure to prevent unauthorized activities. If a port number
is specified at the end of a URL, it is verified against the list of commonly reserved ports. If the port
number matches any entry in the list, the network request will be rejected and a securityError
event will be logged. So, ensure that the port you select is not listed in the commonly reserved
ports list. For the list of reserved ports, see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402882.html.
The Tomcat server in the SSL mode (HTTPS) will continue to use the default port 443, and should
not be changed.
By default, port 80 is reserved on the management station for the P900 Performance advisor and
host agents communication, during the P9000 Performance Advisor upgrade or the host agents
upgrade. You might experience connectivity issues in scenarios where you install P9000 Perform-
ance Advisor and upgrade the host agents, or vice versa, and provide a port number other than
port 80 during the installation. The connectivity issue can arise after the P9000 Performance Advisor
or the host agents upgrade, as port 80 is still expected to be used for the host agents to commu-
nicate with P9000 Performance Advisor. For more information on resolving this issue, see
on page 135.
For P9000 Performance Advisor to use the port of your choice, release that port's association with
any other application on your management station (if associated).
To know which application is using the port that you want, execute the following command:
C:\>netstat -o -n -a | findstr 0.0:<port #>
Following is an example for releasing port 80:
C:\>netstat -o -n -a | findstr 0.0:80
You can expect an outcome similar to the following:
TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 804
The last column of the output from the above command is the process identifier (PID), denoted by
<process_ID>. In the example output, the PID is 804.
To forcibly terminate the process which is using the port, execute the following command:
TASKKILL /F /PID <Port # PID>
Following is an example for terminating the process that is using port 80:
