B Starting, stopping, and restarting host agent services
This section describes the procedures to start, stop, or restart Windows, UNIX, and OpenVMS
Integrity Server (IA–64) host agent and real-time services:
IMPORTANT:
When a Windows host agent service is started, stopped, or restarted using the
Start+Programs+HP Storage Works+HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Host Agent menu,
the real-time service is also automatically started, stopped, or restarted. However, if you start,
stop, or restart the Windows host agent service from the Services dialog box (using
services.msc), you have to manually perform these actions on the real-time service also.
To start, stop, or restart the Windows host agent from the Services dialog box, click Start+Run,
type services.msc, and press the Enter key. In the Services dialog box, right-click the HP
XP P9000 Performance Advisor Hostagent service and accordingly select Start, Stop, or Restart
from the drop-down list that appears. Similarly, for the real-time service, right-click the HP XP
P9000 Performance Advisor Realtime Server service and select the appropriate options from
the drop-down list that appears.
Starting host agent services
To start the Windows host agent and real-time services:
1. Go to Start+Programs+HP Storage Works+HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Host Agent.
2. Select Start HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Host Agent from the menu that appears.
The following indicates that both the Windows host agent (HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor
Hostagent) and real-time (HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Realtime Server) services have started:

To start the UNIX host agent and real-time services:
To start the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Hostagent service, type
/opt/xppa/hostagent/sbin/xppa start in the command prompt window.
To start the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Realtime Server service, type
/opt/xppa/realtime/xpparealtime start in the command prompt window.
To start the OpenVMS Integrity Server host agent and real-time services:
At the system prompt, enter the following: @SYS$COMMON:[HEWLETTPACKARD.HP XP
P9000HOSTSW]xppa.com
NOTE: HP recommends that you should not use the following commands to start the services:
@SYS$COMMON:[HEWLETTPACKARD.HP XP
P9000HOSTSW.realtime]STARTREALTIME.COM
@SYS$COMMON:[HEWLETTPACKARD.HP XP
P9000HOSTSW.HOSTAGENT.SBIN]STARTUPXPPA.COM
Stopping host agent services
To stop the Windows host agent and real-time services, repeat step 1 mentioned above for starting
the Windows host agent and select Stop HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Host Agent from the
menu that appears.
The following indicates that both the Windows host agent and real-time services have stopped:
