7 Understanding the HP XP7 Performance Advisor upgrade
prerequisites
This chapter describes the prerequisites to upgrade the HP XP7 Performance Advisor software and
the host agents, and explains the upgrade checklist. For more information, see “HP XP7 Performance
Advisor and host agents upgrade checklist” (page 100). To install HP XP7 Performance Advisor,
see “HP XP7 Performance Advisor and host agents installation checklist” (page 19).

Upgrade checklist for HP XP7 Performance Advisor
The HP XP7 Performance Advisor provides an upgrade checklist that guides you through the
upgrade and initial collection of configuration, and performance data (see “HP XP7 Performance
Advisor and host agents upgrade checklist” (page 100)). This checklist is also available when you
begin upgrade. For more information, see “Launching the HP XP7 Performance Advisor checklist”
(page 45).
The upgrade checklist contains prerequisites and tasks that you must address before:
1. Upgrading HP XP7 Performance Advisor on a management station.
2. Upgrading HP XP7 Performance Advisor host agents on the respective hosts.
3. Logging in to HP XP7 Performance Advisor, plotting charts to verify that the performance data
is migrated, and continuing with configuration and performance data collection.
NOTE:
• Review the upgrade checklist and complete only those items that are applicable to your current
Storage Area Networks setup. After you complete a particular item, select the adjacent check
box to mark it complete to indicate that you have verified all the items and are ready to install,
and use HP XP7 Performance Advisor. Keep the checklist open till you complete the upgrade
and start using HP XP7 Performance Advisor.

• Before upgrading HP XP7 Performance Advisor: This section lists the tasks and prerequisites
that you must complete before starting the HP XP7 Performance Advisor upgrade process on
your management station.
• Upgrading HP XP7 Performance Advisor: This section directs you to the HP XP7 Performance
Advisor installation wizard.
• After upgrading HP XP7 Performance Advisor: This section lists the post-upgrade tasks and
prerequisites you must complete before upgrading the HP XP7 Performance Advisor host
agents.
