retention periods for the repositories are different, then reference to the item are deleted from the
repository with the shorter retention period first.
Minimum Retention Period Statistics by domain and groups display items and references
that are deleted from the IAP. This is accomplished through the End User Delete (EUD)
function (if enabled). Items and references may be deleted if the End User Delete function is
enabled and message tombstones are deleted from the client’s Outlook folders. These deleted
references are displayed in the Deleted References column in Figure 17. Once all repository
references have been deleted, the item is deleted from the IAP (a function of auto deletion).
The item is first moved the recycle bin repository for 30 days (default retention period for the
recycle bin repository).
Maximum Retention Period by domain and groups displays items that have been deleted
from the IAP by the nightly retention processing jobs. When all the references to an item have
been removed due to the retention period being exceeded on all associated repositories, the
item is deleted and displayed in the Deleted Files column for the domain as illustrated in the
bottom of Figure 17.
End User Delete
Minregulated and Minunregulated are used with the End User Delete function. These parameters are
applied to regulated and unregulated repositories and determine how long an email remains in a
user’s repository after the tombstone has been deleted from Outlook.
MinRegulatedRetentionPeriodDays=-1
MinUnRegulatedRetentionPeriodDays=-1
If folder support is enabled and the tombstones are stored in multiple folders in the user’s Outlook
client when one of the tombstones is deleted, the folder information associated with the message
stored on the IAP is modified to reflect the deleted tombstone. If these settings are set to -1 the
message is not deleted from the user’s repository.
Messages deleted by the End User Delete function with folder support enabled are sent to the recycle
bin repository and stored for 30 days (default recycle bin retention period). For optimal metadata
performance, MinRegulatedRetentionPeriodDays and
MinUnRegulatedRetentionPeriodDays should be configured with the same values.
