HP Storage Platform 2.0 Release Notes

Requests for storage health requests could result in delays for hpspmon daemon status
requests. Status requests and health report requests are now processed in parallel to eliminate
delays.

Workarounds
Firmware Management Tool
The following section describes workarounds for known Firmware Management Tool issues
(related to defect id ALM916):
On the Ibrix 9320 Storage Platform the pre-requisite measures to be followed before performing
firmware update operation on enclosure hard disk drives:
1. Storage disk drive update is an OFFLINE process. Ensure that all host and array I/O must
be stopped prior to the update.
2. Make sure all the file-systems are un-mounted. Failure to comply may result in an OS
crashing.
3. Ensure that no other user is performing administrative functions on the storage system.
4. Ensure that the storage system configuration is not being reconfigured during a
firmware update.
5. To avoid spurious failure indications and potential system crashes, you must suspend
hardware monitoring during the update process. You should execute "hpspmonControl -
-pause" on both servers in the couplet before performing the flash operation. You
should then make sure to execute "hpspmonControl --resume" on both servers in the
couplet after the flash operation is complete.
6. Do not cycle power or restart devices during a firmware update.
For additional information see the HP HPSP_FMT User Guide.
Hardware Monitoring
The following section describes workarounds for known hardware monitoring issues: (related to
defect id BZ24753)
Hardware monitoring will continue to show a storage cluster in a DEGRADED state when an MSA
snapshot LUN is removed due to the reserve LUN getting full or the user removing the block
snapshot from an Ibrix 9320 Storage Platform. To resolve this issue, stop the monitoring process
via the “/etc/init.d/hpspmon stop” command. The monitoring process will be restarted
automatically and will reset the statuses.
