Kdump Start Fails with "No Module Number Found for Kernel 2.6.18-92.el5, Aborting"

Kdump start fails with "No module # found for
kernel 2.6.18-92.el5, aborting."
Solution ID: 92
Created: 1/12/2009
DETAILS:
When starting kdump on a RHEL5.1 or RHEL5.2 segment server, the process fails with
the following message:
Rebuilding /boot/initrd-2.6.18-92.el5kdump.img
No module # found for kernel 2.6.18-92.el5, aborting.
Failed to run mkdumprd
Starting kdump: [FAILED]
Resolution
This is a RedHat bug, #457758 ( see details at:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=457758
). The mkdumprd utility fails to
parse the /etc/mdadm.conf file correctly, interpreting the '#' symbol as a required module
for the initrd build.
The workaround is to simply rename the /etc/mdadm.conf file (example:
“/etc/mdadm.conf.old”).
After this, run "/etc/init.d/kdump restart", and the process should complete successfully.
