Installing storage allocater into an hp surestore
command view storage device management (sdm)
environment
Storage Allocater was formerly known as HP SureStore SAN Manager LUN Management (LM)
This document explains how to install HP OpenView Storage Allocater into an HP SureStore Command
View SDM environment. Command View SDM is the software that is used to manage the HP SureStore
Virtual Array 7100 (va7100).
Assumptions
QLogic’s standard driver is installed and supporting the Command View SDM services
The va7100 array controllers are configured to support a Windows NT environment
Create Database LUNs
Although a one or two partition mirror set is satisfactory for the Storage Allocater database, HP
recommends creating the database on a mirror set composed of three 400-megabyte partitions.
In preparation for the database, create three 400-megabyte LUNs in addition to the LUNs that are required
to support your SAN environment. Remember the LUN numbers that were created for the database. These
numbers will be useful when you are required to select LUNs during the database creation process.
Install Storage Allocater
1. If the Command View SDM GUI is open, close it.
2. Run the Storage Allocater 1.2 installer.
3. The installer detects the existing QLogic driver and prompts you to disable it. Click
Yes
to disable the
existing QLogic driver.
4. After disabling the existing QLogic driver, the installer prompts you to reboot the system. Do not click
the
Finish
button. Instead, click the
Close
button in the top right corner of the Setup window.
