Troubleshooting the HP hardware providers (P6000 only)
VSS Shadow copy creation failure
VSS Shadow copy creation fails due to one of the following issues:
• A snapshot of another allocation policy is attempted when a Volume already has a snapshot of
one allocation policy (fully-allocated or demand-allocated). When this happens, the following
application event log message is displayed:
Shadow copy creation has failed for atleast one volume for the reason
- The requested allocation policy cannot be satisfied. A different al-
location policy is already in use by another snapshot in the same fam-
ily.
This Scenario occurs when
• a fully-allocated snapshot creation is attempted for a Volume already having one or more de-
mand-allocated snapshots.
• a demand-allocated snapshot creation is attempted for a Volume already having one or more
fully-allocated snapshots.
NOTE:
Ensure that the Volume for which snapshot creation of one allocation policy is attempted does not
have any snapshots of a different allocation policy because the system does not support a Volume
having snapshots of both allocation policy at any point of time.
• An unsupported snap type is attempted when a Volume already has a fully-allocated snapshot/de-
mand-allocated snapshot/mirrorclone/mirrorclone-snapshot. The three possible scenarios are de-
scribed below:
1. Snapshot creation fails and the following application event log message is displayed:
Snapshot is not allowed for the LUN: AAA for the reason: BBB
where AAA is the name of the LUN and BBB could be one of the following:
• LUN is a Snapshot
• LUN is a Snapclone Source
• Snapclone copy is in progress for the LUN
• LUN is a Mirrorclone Source
Snapshot creation is not supported for any of the specified states of the source LUN. Hence
before attempting snapshot creation for a Volume, ensure that the source LUN is not in any
one of the specified states.
2. Snapclone creation fails and the following application event log message is displayed:
Snapclone is not allowed for the LUN: AAA for the reason: BBB
where AAA is the name of the LUN and BBB could be one of the following:
• LUN is a Snapshot
