1 Installation overview and requirements
This chapter provides an overview of the HP Systems Insight Manager installation process and identifies the
system requirements for a HP-UX CMS, a managed system, and a network client.
First time install process overview
Perform these steps for a first time install of HP Systems Insight Manager on your CMS:
1. Install and configure the CMS. For details, see Chapter 2 “Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on
the CMS for the first time”.
2. Install and configure the required management software on the systems that will be managed by the
CMS. For more information, see Chapter 3 “Setting up managed systems”.
3. Configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment. For more information, see chapter
Chapter 4 “Configuring Systems Insight Manager”.
Upgrade overview
If HP Systems Insight Manager is installed on your CMS, see the upgrade instructions in
"Chapter 5 “Upgrading Systems Insight Manager” for details.
System requirements
This section identifies the hardware and software requirements and recommendations for HP Insight Control.
These requirements are broken into sections for the CMS, managed system, and network client.
Part 1: HP-UX Central Management Server
Operating system
• HP-UX 11i v2 Update 2 (11.23 PI-PA)
• HP-UX 11i v3 (11.31 IA/PA)
• Integrity Virtual Machine running guest with HP-UX 11i v2
• Integrity Virtual Machine running guest with HP-UX 11i v3
NOTE: The HP Systems Insight Manager CMS cannot run on an HPVM host.
NOTE: The required patches must be installed for each of these operating systems. For more information,
see “HP-UX patches”.
Hardware
• Any HP system (PA-RISC 2.0 or Integrity) server with a minimum of 2 GB RAM (3 GB for HP-UX 11i
v3)
• Any HP system with Oracle installed with a minimum of 4 GB RAM
• Free disk space:
20 MB for CMS (/)•
• 600 MB for the CMS and DTF agent (/opt)
• 500 MB minimum recommended for data (/var/opt)
