HP Systems Insight Manager 7.1 Installation and Configuration Guide for MS Windows

For example, if two CIMOMs exist on the same host, you must configure them to use different ports
to communicate with the CMS.
Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager to discover storage systems
After verifying that each storage system's SMI-S provider is installed and configured, configure HP
Systems Insight Manager to discover the storage systems.
Procedure 7 Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager to discover the storage systems
1. Enter the user name and password for each provider's SMI CIMOM in the Default WBEM
settings section on the Setting Global Protocols page.
2. Add each SMI CIMOM IP address to the Discovery task or to the Creating a New Discovery
task. See the HP Systems Insight Manager User Guide at http://www.hp.com/go/
insightmanagement/sim/docs for more information.
HP Systems Insight Manager discovers the storage systems after the next automatic discovery task.
If you want to discover your storage systems immediately, run the discovery task as described in
the HP Systems Insight Manager User Guide at http://www.hp.com/go/insightmanagement/sim/
docs.
Managing host systems with iLO4 using Agentless Management feature
The iLO4 architecture in ProLiant Gen8 servers makes it possible to monitor the server hardware
and manage alerts without operating system based agents. ProLiant Gen8 servers include the iLO
Management Engine, which provides HP Agentless Management. HP Agentless Management runs
independently from the OS and collects data on core server components. You can view the data
that the iLO Management Engine collects through either the web based iLO 4 Graphical User
Interface (GUI) or through a remote management application, like HP SIM. For more information,
see http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/remotemgmt.html
Installing the HP Agentless Management Service
ProLiant Gen8 servers are capable of running HP Agentless Management through the iLO
Management Engine. The HP Management Service expands monitoring from core hardware
components to include applications and the operating system. You have three options for installing
the HP Agentless Management Service:
HP Intelligent Provisioning
HP SIM Configure and Repair Agents options
HP SIM Managed System Setup Wizard
Configuring HP Agentless Management
For HP SIM 7.0 to manage a ProLiant Gen8 server using HP Agentless Management, you need to
configure certain SNMP parameters on the server. To configure SNMP, select Management from
the iLO 4 GUI Administration browser menu.
To configure SNMP on the ProLiant Gen8 server, complete the following steps: The image below
shows the Management screen and the SNMP parameters that you need to configure.
1. Enable Agentless Management.
2. Enter a common Read Community string for HP SIM 7.0 and the ProLiant Gen8 server.
3. Enter a common Trap Community string for HP SIM 7.0 and the ProLiant Gen8 server.
4. Enter the IP address for the HP SIM 7.0 IP address in the SNMP Alert Destinations(s) field.
