1 Installation overview and requirements This chapter provides an overview of the HP Systems Insight Manager installation process, and it identifies the system requirements for a Windows CMS, a managed system, and a network client. First time install process overview Perform these steps for a first time install of HP Systems Insight Manager on your CMS: 1. Install and configure the Central Management Server.

NOTE: The ProLiant ML/DL 100 series servers do not support HP Insight Remote Support Advanced. If you are using HP Insight Remote Support Advanced, you must use a ProLiant 300, 500, 700, or Blade Server. NOTE: If Microsoft SQL Server is installed on the CMS, an additional 512 MB of RAM should be installed. NOTE: HP Netserver platforms can be used for the Central Management Server as long as the Instant Toptools software is not installed and all other requirements are met.

2 Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time Preparing the system These steps are for a clean installation of HP Systems Insight Manager on your Windows system. If a previous version of HP Systems Insight Manager is installed on your system and you want to upgrade your data, see Upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager. This procedure verifies that your system meets the minimum requirements and prepares your system for installation. 1. Install and configure the CMS.
3. Verify your system has at least one partition formatted for the NTFS file system, on which the HP Systems Insight Manager server software is to be installed. If this requirement is not yet met, create or format an NTFS partition for use by HP Systems Insight Manager. 4. If you have the unsupported HP Insight Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE) Windows Client software A.03.
The Welcome to the HP Systems Insight Manager Installer window appears. HP Systems Insight Manager examines this system for supported versions of SQL Server and Oracle. NOTE: HP does not recommend running server deployment with MSDE installed and HP Systems Insight Manager with SQL Express on the same server. NOTE: Click the selection box in the upper-right corner of any dialog box to view the HP Systems Insight Manager Installation and Configuration Guide, ReadMe or Release Notes. 8. Click Next.
NOTE: HP Systems Insight Manager supports SQL Server and Oracle databases on Windows platforms. This feature enables support for a local or remote database hosted on an IPV6 enabled machine. However HP Systems Insight Manager does not support IPV6 addresses. You must enter a hostname in the Host field. Select from the following database options: 24 • Install and use SQL Express — This option enables you to install and configure HP Systems Insight Manager to use SQL Express.
9. The Select Installation Type window enables you to select your preferred installation type. The following installation options are available: • “Typical install” (page 26) — Select this option to install the included components with minimal user interaction listed under the Available Components for Install.
Typical install Procedure 2 Typical installation 1. Click Next, the Service Account Credentials window appears. The Domain and User name fields default to the installing account credentials and these fields can be edited. NOTE: 2. This user account is used to run the HP Systems Insight Manager service. Enter the password for this account. Click Next, the Summary window appears with the components that are to be installed.
3. 4. Click Install to initiate the installation process which installs all products listed in the Selected Components table. The Status window appears. As each component is being installed, it states In Progress beside the component's name. After the component has installed, it states Installed Successfully. After all the components are installed, click Next. The Registration window appears. Register HP Systems Insight Manager or click Register Later.
5. 28 After registering or clicking Register Later, the Installation complete window appears. For a fresh install, the following message appears For this new install, an operating system account must be created and configured in the System Management Homepage on this computer and each HP Version Control Agent must be configured to use the new account. For more information, refer to the Version Control Installation Guide at http:// h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/agents/documentation.html.
6. The reboot option is presented on this screen. The Yes, reboot the system now option is selected by default. Click Finish to allow the system to reboot. This completes the typical installation process. For more information, see “Next steps” (page 29). NOTE: For more information regarding where the System Management Homepage default settings are stored during a Typical installation and how to change them, see the HP System Management Homepage Installation Guide at http://h18013.www1.hp.

3 Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager At this point, step 1 below is complete. Perform step 2 to configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment by using First Time Wizard or proceed to “Configuring Systems Insight Manager using the Options menu” (page 34). 1. Install and configure the CMS. The procedure to complete this step is in “Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time” (page 21). 2. Configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment.

A system must be discovered to collect data and track system health status. • Credentials: System Automatic Discovery Use the wizard to set the sign-in credentials and the SNMP credentials for the Discovery task. • Configure Managed Systems Configure managed systems as they are discovered, by configuring WBEM and WMI, SNMP, SSH access, and trust relationship.

NOTE: Users that have been added to the CMS cannot view or manage systems until authorizations have been configured for them. NOTE: HP-UX and Linux-provided command line tools, such as ls and df, are run as root by default. For security reasons, run them as a specific user to avoid permitting unintended capabilities to a user. To add users, select Options→Security→Users and Authorizations→Users, and then click New.
4 Setting up and configuring managed systems At this point, steps 1 and 2 below are complete. Perform step 3 to install and configure the required management software. 1. Install and configure the CMS. See “Installing HP Systems Insight Manager on the CMS for the first time” (page 21). 2. Configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment. See “Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager” (page 32). IMPORTANT: You must run Discovery before setting up managed systems.
NOTE: You must have selected to install Insight managed system setup wizard when installing Systems Insight Manager. Using the Insight managed system setup wizard requires the System Setup toolbox authorization in Systems Insight Manager. Authorize the System Setup toolbox on the CMS to allow use of the managed system setup wizard. Authorize this toolbox on each managed system that will be configured using the managed system setup wizard.
Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager to discover storage systems After verifying that each storage system's SMI-S provider is installed and configured, configure HP Systems Insight Manager to discover the storage systems. Procedure 7 Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager to discover the storage systems 1. 2. Enter the user name and password for each provider's SMI CIMOM in the Default WBEM settings section on the Setting Global Protocols page.
5 Installing HP Insight Remote Support Advanced The HP Insight Remote Support Advanced software is integrated with HP Systems Insight Manager and provides comprehensive remote monitoring, notification/advisories, dispatch and proactive service support for nearly all HP servers, storage, network, SAN environments and selected multivendor devices. HP Insight Remote Support Advanced is targeted to larger networks, data centers, and mission critical or business critical support levels.
and performance. The determination of which data center should receive traffic from the CMS is performed by a Global Server Load Balancer (GSLB), which directs traffic based on name server resolution. The CMS DNS resolution facilitates the GSLB being able to direct traffic dynamically to the appropriate site. It is not supported to configure the hosts file with a single IP address of the Remote Support aliases because there are multiple IP addresses for these aliases.
6 Upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager This chapter provides the steps to upgrade HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3.1 and later. Before beginning the HP Systems Insight Manager upgrade, verify that your user name and password to access the database are valid.
Before continuing the installation, you must upgrade the database or install a supported database.
5. Click Next. The System Inspection window appears. The system is inspected for a previous version of HP Systems Insight Manager and/or a local database. During inspection, if HP Systems Insight Manager detects any incompatible plug-ins, an advisory displays. After the system inspection completes, the Database Configuration window appears. 6. For HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3.1 and later, SQL 2008 R2 replaces SQL 2005 Express.
Procedure 10 Use SQL or SQL Express 1. 2. 3. From the Database Configuration window, select Use SQL/SQL Express. In the Username field, the installing user account appears and can be edited. The account specified must be the user name for the database server. In the Password field, enter the password for the database server.
7. When the Select Installation Type window appears, select Typical to install the included components with minimal user interaction listed under the Available Components for Install or select Custom to select the individual components under the Available Components for Install and configure them during installation.
Custom upgrade Procedure 13 Custom upgrade 1. 2. 3. Click Next, the Software Selection window appears. This window displays the complete list of the available components with a checkbox next to each one. If the checkbox is selected and disabled, the component is deemed a mandatory component and cannot be cleared. The amount of required disk space is also listed for each component. Select the components you want to install. Click Next to verify that enough disk space exists for the selected components.
Database information: Set . In the upgrade mode this option is ignored; the installer does not install SQL Express on the local server even if set true. The database information of the existing install is used. NOTE: HP Systems Insight Manager automatically upgrades MSDE to SQL Express 2005 SP3 even if the tag is set to True or False. Provide the database user account information from the existing HP Systems Insight Manager install.
IMPORTANT: For a Silent upgrade, the service or database user name containing special characters, such as: <, &, <, >, ', "must be escaped appropriately as below in the silent.xml file: & & < < > > ' ' " “ For example, for a user name such as user&1, the entry in silent.xml would be user&1. For a silent install/upgrade embedded quote ( " ) character in service or database password is not supported.
to encrypt the exported file for security reasons. The password you enter here will be required to import the data. • -f is optional. If you do not pass the filename, a Products.zip file is created in [HPSIM]\data\configdata-export. • -p is mandatory. Specify the password as part of the command or you will be prompted to enter the password. The password must be a minimum of 8 characters. This password is used to encrypt the exported file for security reasons.
Post migration steps HP recommends running the configure and repair agent settings on the target CMS against the discovered systems. The options chosen should include to reset the trap, indication destinations as well as reconfiguring any certificates used by the System Management Homepage, iLO, or OA for Single sign-on. Supported configurations include, configuring WBEM and SNMP settings, SSH authentication mode and trust relationships.

7 Uninstalling HP Systems Insight Manager From the control panel, use the Add/Remove Programs feature in Windows, and complete the following steps to remove HP Systems Insight Manager and its dependencies: NOTE: If a registered plug-in is installed and dependant on HP Systems Insight Manager does not unistall it. Procedure 15 Uninstalling HP Systems Insight Manager 1. Select HP Systems Insight Manager, and click Remove. If you want to uninstall HP Systems Insight Manager, click Yes.
8 Configuration options Several configurable parameters in HP Systems Insight Manager that are not available from the GUI. These parameters can only be configured by editing a configuration file on the CMS. NOTE: All HP Systems Insight Manager parameters have been set to predefined values that are appropriate for most situations. These parameters should only be changed if you are experiencing issues with the default values.
users. This is called the active time-out policy and it is similar to the policy, used by Servicecontrol Manager. Monitor time-out policy The monitor time-out policy keeps sessions alive, provided the user has a web browser window open displaying the HP Systems Insight Manager GUI. Closing the browser or navigating to another web page starts the timer for the time-out period. The default time-out period is 20 minutes.
Audit log location The location of the Audit Log can be configured using the path.properties file. Implementation Changes made to the log.properties file do not take effect until the log manager daemon or service is restarted. Restart the HP Systems Insight Manager service. CAUTION: The queue size should be changed only with extreme care. If the queue is set too high, the log manager consumes too much system memory.
◦ System Protocol Settings ◦ Automatic Discovery Tools in this category have no task output, have task output that is saved outside of HP Systems Insight Manager, or have task results that are unlikely to be of long-term interest. Tasks for all other tools are considered long-term. Frequently scheduled tasks Task results can also be removed from the Task Results Page if a certain number of task results for a scheduled task accumulate. This setting defaults to 10 instances of a single task.
9 Database installation Install and use SQL Express Install and use SQL Express. This option enables you to install and configure HP Systems Insight Manager to use SQL Express. Procedure 18 Install and use SQL Express 1. 2. 3. From the Database Configuration window, select Install and Use SQL Express. In the Username field, the installing user account appears and can be edited. The account specified must be the user name for the database server.

To use the assistant, select Program Files→Oracle-OraHome92→Configuration and Migration Tool. Select Create a Database, and then select Next. Select General Purpose, and then select Next. Enter a name in Global Database Name, for example HPSIM, and then select Next.
5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Under Instance name in the Database field, enter the name of the database created on Oracle for the use of HP Systems Insight Manager. In the Port field, the default 1521 appears but can be edited. In the JarFile field, enter the full path to theojdbc14.jarfile or click Browse and navigate to the correct location, typically C:\oracle\ora92\jdbc\lib. This path must be accessible through the file system on the CMS. The installation copies the file to the correct location.
10 Custom installation Custom install Procedure 22 Custom installation 1. Click Next, the Software Selection window appears. This window displays the complete list of the available components with a checkbox next to each one. If the checkbox is selected and disabled, the component is deemed a mandatory component and cannot be cleared. The amount of required disk space is also listed for each component. Select the components you want to install.
NOTE: 3. This user account is used to run the HP Systems Insight Manager service. Click Next. The Summary window appears.
4. Click Install to initiate the installation process. This process installs all the products listed in the Selected Components table. The Status window appears. As you install each component, it states In Progress next to the component's name. After the component installs, it states Installed Successfully. 5. Install System Management Homepage: a. The System Management Homepage Setup window appears. The InstallShield Wizard guides you through the install of System Management Homepage. Click Next.
NOTE: If you click Next without adding any certificates to the list, and no certificates exist from a previous installation, a message appears, indicating that if you do not specify any trusted certificates, HP Systems Insight Manager cannot access the HP Insight Management Agents on this system. Click OK if you do not want HP Systems Insight Manager to access the Insight Management Agents on this system, or click Cancel to close the window and add the trusted certificates to the list.
NOTE: If you click Next without adding any server names to the list, an error message appears, indicating that if you do not specify any trusted server names, HP Systems Insight Manager cannot access the Insight Management Agents on this system. Click OK to proceed without trusting any systems, or click Cancel to close the window and add server names to the list.
NOTE: If you entered an invalid IP address or IP address range, an error message appears indicating the IP address is invalid. Click OK. Enter a valid IP address or IP address range, and click Add again. The IP Addresses to Exclude window appears. In the Exclude field, enter a beginning IP address to which you want to deny login access. 5. 6. In the To field, enter an ending IP address to which you want to deny login access.
7. Install the WMI Mapper: a. On the Welcome to the Pegasus WMI Mapper Setup Wizard, click Next. The End-User License Agreement window appears. b. After reading the license agreement, click I accept the terms in the License Agreement. Click Next. The Choose Setup Type window appears. c. Select the setup type. (The basic requirement for HP Systems Insight Manager is Typical installation. If you select Typical, omit step d.) NOTE: d. e. f.
NOTE: If the HP Version Control Agent is configured to use the HP Version Control, warning appears: "At least one HP Version Control Agent must be configured to use the HP Version Control." If none are configured, verify the HP Version Control Agent settings to ensure proper operation of the automatic update feature. Click OK. e. Click Close. 10. O Onboard Administrator The Onboard Administrator is the central point for controlling an entire c-Class enclosure. It offers configuration, power, and administrative control over the rack, and its associated blades (Compute Servers), blade management processors (iLOs), network switches (depending on the models of switches used) and storage components (such as SAN or SATA). The Onboard Administrator is a single management processor, with shared resources to an optional backup twin processor for failover.

system health status This is aggregate status all of the status sources (which can be SNMP, WBEM, and HTTP) that are supported on a target system, with the most critical status being displayed. The following are the different system health statuses that can be displayed: • Critical HP Systems Insight Manager can no longer communicate with the system. The system was previously discovered but cannot be pinged.
system properties properties can be set for a single system or for multiple systems at the same time and include options such as system name, system type, system sub-type, operating system version, asset number, contact information, and whether or not the system properties can be changed or updated by the discovery process. system search Logical grouping of systems into a collection based on information in the HP Systems Insight Manager database.
U uncleared event status Events that have a Critical, Major, Minor, Normal, or Informational severity and have not been cleared or deleted from the database. Events can be cleared without being deleted from the database by using the Clear events menu option. • Critical. A failure has occurred, and immediate attention is required. • Major. A failure is impending. • Minor. A warning condition exists that can escalate into a more serious problem. • Normal. These events are not a problem.
Web-Based Enterprise Services A tool suite that is aimed at preventing or reducing the downtime of a system. Web-launch aware A run type for tools that are launched in a web browser using a web server. WLA tools can be designed to deal with multiple systems.
